Breakfast had the composer for the music from 'Up' on the sofa this morning and showed a couple of clips from the film which looked awful - almost as if they'd been tajen from YouTube. Considering animation these days is extraordinary when watched in HD and is often used in shops to sell tellys because of the high contrast and vivid colours, this couldn't have looked worse.

I assume they chose to grab these clips from a very low quality ftp server or something... rather than acquire a proper publicity clips roll?

I have to agree the quality of the clips were absolutely awful considering it was in HD when filmed.

Probably cheaper.

Haven't watched the weekday programme for a long time...more of a Today man now; but watching the interview with Heather Brooke and the actress playing her, from this morning, there have been some really nice camera angles and movements, which I don't recall them being so imaginative before....!

They have been quite imaginative in recent weeks. I noticed they have done on the 6 which is also in TC7...

Yes - for the film company... These days more and more clips are provided via digital download rather than on a broadcast quality DigiBeta tape. Duplicating EPK and Clip reels for every broadcaster costs significant amounts per tape - and downloads are now cheaper for film promoters to provide.

In many cases the clips are full quality - but sometimes they aren't... Often the PR people involved in providing the clips are clueless about broadcast formats and will say "take them from the website or YouTube" because they can't be faffed to provide full quality material for the show they are promoting.

Also - some promotional clips are run on news agencies as NTSC conversions letterboxed in 4:3. When they've been standards converted, sent down a low bitrate satellite link and then zoomed and cropped to 14:9 pillarbox or 16:9 full frame they can also look pretty dreadful...

Even though these films are rendered in 2k or 4k resolution, and available on Blu-ray in 1080p, the PRs will often suggest using a 360p or worse copy...

I'll be surprised if she doesn't as she has been for the last few years.

It is nice to see Justin Rowlatt back on Breakfast today and seemed more relaxed than last time, hopefully he will settle in a bit more next time and get used to presenting Breakfast so he comes across more natural rather than shouty.

No surprise really, since it was up against GMTV and This Morning. No contest there!

Anybody familiar with any changes being made to Breakfast from Monday? Alex Deakin gave the final weather bulletin this morning and said that Carol would be back on Monday but not from the Blue Peter Garden. Said something along the lines of 'after 6 years, it's going'.
