TC7 is used for The Andrew Marr shows on Sunday and I don't think TC7 is used at all on Saturdays (except maybe pre-recorded programmes) so they wouldn't be able to justify opening it up with a separate gallery team just for Breakfast.

When Breakfast used to be N6 they were able to fit the sofas on the left while the baking tray was on the right. I don't know how much space there is now since the April 2008 refit.

I can't imagine they have less physical space given the screens don't seem to have changed. Storage space might be different though! Also, remember the current desk in N6 is a lot larger than the previous one was - less space for a sofa.

Many years ago, pre Breakfast days possibly, when it was Weekend 24 there used to be soft area as part of the News 24 set.

Both the original 1997-1998 (Flags) and the 1998-2000ish (Windswept Conservatory) News 24 sets had sofa sets used for shows like Europe Direct, Weekend 24, Interactive, Zero 30 etc. The sofas were ditched when News 24 got a corporate beige and red make-over and the second set became desk based.

Indeed they did. Nice pale green sofa's with bits of frosted glass and purple boards as a background not forgetting the purple carpet (the 98-99 set). The 97-98 sofa set was wacky as anything but very colourful. Newsround 24 used it on Sunday afternoons and like you say Zero 30 in the good old days before Liquid News.

But then N8 has more space to play with than N6! Not sure they could pull something like that off today.

Great to see they've got a Christmas tree in the studio this year, albeit a plastic one.

Hasn't Breakfast always had a Christmas tree in the studio? I may have missed recent years but certainly between c.2000-2004 they always had a tree. As I mentioned earlier, it was usually moved to N8 once Breakfast finished for Christmas.

That's what I meant - I think the physical space has changed because I think the baking tray might be bigger.

The 'baking tray' is considerably bigger in N6 since the 2008 revamp. It appears to fill about two-thirds of the studio and isn't mobile (or not as mobile, perhaps)

As an aside, perhaps somebody can answer why they don't sweep the dust away from underneath the 'baking trays'.

Last week Newsnight did a very nice sweeping shot (no pun intended) during the closing credits which ended up with the jib-camera almost on the floor looking towards the right-hand side seating area......

....the lavishly lit dust and muck underneath the dais ruined it somewhat! Confused Wink
