Thing is that TC7 isn't used on a Saturday AFAIK, so there is plenty of time to redress the set for Marr and the Politics Show. There's not much time between Newsnight and Breakfast going on air to change the set.

But, before the days of cost saving, Newsnight and Breakfast used to come from TC7 with totally different sets. It's certainly not beyond the realms of practicality sticking a bit of carpet under the sofa on the baking tray, which would improve the look. And I think they could make much better use of the space. 6.00-7.30 primarily from the desk, 7.30-8.00 from the sofa, 8.00-8.15 desk, after the 8.15 weather move to the sofa for the rest of the show.

Yes - but your first sentence is the most important. Cost saving. The BBC invested money in buying Barco screens to allow them to change the visual look of a show without requiring lots of scene shifting, and also reducing the amount of re-lighting, allowing them to save money by reducing the number of staff required to turn the studio round between shows...

If you start re-introducing more studio changes between shows, then you need more staff to do them. These staff cost money, and that doesn't really work when you've got to accommodate major budget cuts year-on-year...

I'm sure Breakfast, Working Lunch, Newsround and Newsnight would love totally different sets, and to use the studio in different ways to each other. However they can't afford to do that...

My original point was a bit of carpet on the baking tray - correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think that would really require more staff to get the studio ready?

Well you'd at least need some scenery people to bring the carpet in, lay it and get it flat and take it out again afterwards. Depending on the carpet's colour, you'd also need a degree of relighting. The baking tray rostra reflect an amount of light back up under the presenters which can look quite flattering. A purple carpet for instance, wouldn't. Even changing the Barcos from the Six o'clock News greys to Newsnight's purples and bringing in their sofas and so-on requires a good deal of relighting. It all takes time, people and costs money against ever tightening budgets.

I would also expect the change from Newsnight to Breakfast requires relighting even now, without some sort of carpet, so I fail to see how a carpet would affect it...? Please do correct me if I'm wrong - I'm not one of these know-it-all posters who thinks they're certain about everything. Iin your opinion, do you think to bring the carpet in, lay it and get it flat and take it out again would require another member of staff?

Was she off filming a show with Bill Turnball? I do like Louise Minchin and would have preferred her to be the stand-in for Sian while she was on maternity leave.

Apparently the BBC Breakfast theme tune is Matt Lucas' all time favourite piece of music. Susanna Reid offered to put it on a "tape" for him, so he could take it home and listen to it on a loop over and over again.

What kind of person would want to do a thing like that?
