Since leaving BBC One, the clock seems to have been replaced during Click with the BBC News logo, sans clock.

Justin Webb interview in The Independent...mentions towards the end how he really didn't enjoy presenting Breakfast News!

Actually, at the time, I always remember thinking to myself that Justin wasn't really suited to the Breakfast format. I always considered him too posh for that programme, although I though he fitted perfectly on the Six.

Business will be one of the areas hardest hit...

BBC Breakfast will no longer broadcast live reports from the London Stock Exchange as part of the cost-saving drive.

From the end of this month, business presenter Simon Jack's live reports will be conducted from the BBC Breakfast studio, rather than the trading floor of the LSE, saving money on an ISDN link.

As mentioned in the World thread BBC Breakfast business will suffer with Simon Jack moving to TVC to present business updates - let's hope they don't just plonk him on the sofa and at least create a decent look to business at the barco screens.

The could do it as a down-the-line from the camera in the BBCs' Business Centre (or is it the Economics Centre? What do they call it? It's been a while since I've seen it on the air!)

Also ISDNs don't cost a great deal of money. It'll be the studio and vision line booking costs that will be saved. Sorry to be pedantic, but it shows how much people who make statements about things like this actually understand about making TV. I think the BBC use a reverse vision circuit to the LSE too to supply graphic images for the screens... might be wrong on that, but if that is the case, the lines cost will be even more significant.

It's a shame because the Business segements look very good IMO considering the facilities they have at the LSE. I think several other broadcasters use the studios there, so maybe one of them will pick up the studio that the BBC used to use and capitalise on being able to do 1+1s and so-on.

To clarify I was quoting Media Guardian.

Pfft. Well that says quite a lot too!

It's been an absolute pleasure to watch Susanna Reid all week, and a change from Kate or Louise. Not too sure she's done a full week for quite some time. Interesting how her and Louise appear to have switched roles.

As of today the business news is being presented from within the Breakfast studio, rather than using the Stock Exchange studio. I assume this probably is cost cutting related, rather than that studio is being updated. It does look slightly odd to see the presenter standing, particularly when there is a guest who's also standing, perhaps would make more sense to use the 'desk area' (as it was visible from the camera angle).

Now they're using the Working Lunch stock graphics.

The change of location seemed to have unsettled Simon Jack somewhat at first. He looked decidedly uncomfortable and nervous for his first update - his hands were shaking when going through the papers, and he seemed unaware that he'd shown the camera the wrong half of a folded-over page from the Telegraph, displaying an advert for Sky+ HD rather than the story in question.

Generally, I can't say I've warmed to him as the business reporter yet. He just seems a bit nervy and nondescript to me, and doesn't seem to have much chemistry with the main presenters.

Although he's not as good as Declan was I think he's been getting better, but I agree that today he looked nervous. I wasn't a fan of the new set up - he looked isolated during the handover from Bill/Kate and I don't feel the interview worked from that area. Also, for a quick update I thought the graphics contained too much info (during the update I saw anyway).

I much preferred the Stock Exchange Studio, but since they have to cut costs I hope they can look at a way of trying to improve the update from the main studio.

On a side note interesting to see interaction between the news channel presenters and Bill/Kate at 8.30 today- they had been discussing a story about attraction through smell just beforehand, and when the usual plug for the news channel starting came up, Simon McCoy was clearly doing a smelling uder the arms action, followed by Simon and Rachel both waving to camera when Kate reffered to them. First time I've seen the news channel presenters acknowledge the plug by Breakfast.
