Firstly, you can't sell something you're renting, and secondly: I think you'll find that people wanting to peddle their latest book, DVD, film or CD will go wherever the free publicity is available.

Salford isn't the back of beyond: in fact you can get to MediaCity within 25 mins from Manchester Airport (which isn't something that can be said about Heathrow or Gatwick to TVC).

That is true, although many A listers arrive in London and do the "rounds" there. Daybreak, Loose Women, The One Show amongst many others which are all inside the M25 and several prgramme hits can be made in a short time before they fly out again, usually back across the Atlantic. Athough a Salford breakfast will no doubt get guests, it remains to be seen if the A listers that have pushed Breakfast well ahead of Daybreak, will break their London Circus of programmes within easy reach of each other to travel north for a one off appearance. I hope for Breakfasts sake that they will.

I disagree that it's the 'A-listers' that have pushed Breakfast ahead of Daybreak. The ITV show has no shortage of 'stars' but struggles because of a poor format and lacklustre presenters. Also Breakfast's strength is its news coverage and reports.

Also 5 live's presence in the same building means big talent can do a live interview there too!

On ITV, nearly all of their live programming from 6.00 until about 1.30 all come from TLS, so the guest would usually come on Daybreak at half 7 or 8, then maybe Lorraine, then Jeremy Kyle is on then usually the guest will go on This Morning and possibly Loose Women later? So the weakness of Daybreak doesn't really matter. Even though that is an okay point, I still think Breakfast will get more guests!

thinks to self *such a boring and useless post Daniel, leave and think and come back! okay.*

I agree that the Daybeak format is absolute ****, although would point out that a radio interview can be done far more easily in seperate locations, so the contributor could be anywhere, whereas tv requires a bit more chemistry due to the visual dynamic. Examples could well be Harrison Ford who was in London to promote a film called Daybreak about a failing breakfast programme.....He did the inner M25 rounds, would he have gone to Salford for a one off interview amongst the 7 he did in London? Possibly, although may be not, as he was on a very tight schedule.
My point really was that on Breakfast, a viewer knew that between 0835 and 0915, there would likely to be a very good mix of guests (You never got an A lister earlier) and this helped the early morning viewer transition to stay with BBC1 or the rest of the morning. A requirement of NC1. It will probably define the success of Salford if they can maintain the viewing figures in this time slot. I hope they do, although have some doubts.

Sorry but this is utter nonsense genuine A listers appear once/twice a year in the Breakfast studio. Most of the times Kylie, Beyonce, Daniel Craig. Tom Jones, Kate Winslet etc do a pre recorded interview with either Tim or Charlie.

Of your list of shows above I would say only The One show ever gets genuine A list guests in the studio on a regular basis Elton John, David Jason, Sting, Kylie, Jenson Button, Will Smith, Katy Perry,Martin Sheen, Michael McIntyre, etc And thats because it has 4-5m viewers to plug to.

Daybreak and Breakfast usually attract B list British tv stars and tv contestants plugging their latest tv shows, they definitely won't be rushing for a flight to Hollywood Wink
Also Breakfast's guests are far more diverse and they interview new musicians, playwrights and writers who would give their left arm for a a 8.40 -9.15 am interview in front of a 2m+ audience.

The most important point to make is that Breakfast currently does no studio interviews with 'Arts/Showbiz' guest until 8.40, 10 minutes after Daybreak finishes! Breakfast doesnt wallop Daybreak in the ratings because of guests!
Something Daybreak's Producers should remember Exclamation

Breakfast easily wins the ratings war Because a Hollywood star might appear in 1 or 2 editions of Breakfast out of the 365 they do each year. Shocked Utter drivel!

!

I seem to remember Daybreak's ratings falling the day they had an exclusive interview with Prince Charles despite huge promotion.
As the former producer of Michael Parkinson's chatshow said the vast majority of the GBP are more interested in an interview with an actor from Eastenders or Corrie than they are the likes of Nicole kidman or Tom Cruise.

Also Breakfast's strength is its news coverage and reports.
!

Agreed the trust the public has in BBC News is their strongest asset, look at BBC News At Ten and BBC news Channel far less flash than their competitors but far more trusted and watched.

Has anyone learnt any lessons from the failure of Daybreak. The obsession of Image over content and trust on this forum is utterly hilarious!

Shall we open a book then on when Breakfast will return to London due to further cost savings and integrating Breakfast with the BBC News team?

It's so ironic that with all these shows moving to Salford to make the BBC less London centric the BBC are doing as much as possible to ensure viewers don't notice the difference. This generic design is long due the axe and the new studio just looks like a step back to the current one - funny isn't it how it just looks like a cheap regional rip off of the national look! Laughing
.

You have being saying this for 8 years and in that time BBC news. Breakfast and NC have grown in popularity. Very Happy
And should you be making predictions after your Adrian/Christine and Daybreak will be a a success predictions Shocked Generally there isn't anyone worse at making predictions than you.

If you're going to the effort of relocating everyone a few hundred miles up the M6 at least take advantage of the change and make everything feel fresh..

Utter nonsense why would you dump branding that is hugely popular. Only on planet Brekkie Razz
I was under the impression the move to Salford would mean we would have a real backdrop for once, a la Daybreak . Bit disappointed we have to put up with the fake backdrop for longer.

Yeah because that's been such a success Smile

Sundays usually finish around 7.30am to make way for the Match of the Day repeat. At weekends it is little more than schedule filler really.

The Sunday Breakfast DOES NOT finish at 7.30. The programme continues on the BBC NC.

And pulls in huge figures for the news channel too.

The ending of Breakfast was nothing special for those who missed - after they came back from the regional news, they simply said what was coming up tomorrow on Breakfast from the brand new studio in Salford and said goodbye, with a longer closing shot than usual.

I'd show you the recording but yet again my tuner card has failed to do its job properly and lost it's signal while I left it!

I thought Nick and Naga did a very good job on Breakfast this morning and would prefer them as regular presenters to BT and SR who I don't think show any chemistry at all between them.

This morning though - why the silly camera angles with a teapot (what was that all about ??)
and some odd camera work to say the least - are Breakfast using auto cameras already ??

The graphics also crashed during the show and were removed from the screen for a good ten minutes or so. For a few seconds before they were removed the screen started flickering like mad with the bottom 'BBC News' DOG flashing.

Yes, Nick and Naga is a strange pairing, but a good one of that. They seem to have a good chemistry and I would also prefer them to Bill and Susanna.

Nick and Naga were great today. Great chemistry and nice joke digs from Naga about Nicks age. Laughing
