anybody else noticed, save for some breakfast banners the backdrop is the same as the BBC Nottingham/East Midlands Today backdrop without the newsroom sections?

East Midlands Today's backdrop is Nottingham, isn't it?

As is the view out of the windows on the Network backdrop, if you listen to Lightwell design Razz It's just obscured, but what I meant was the internal vectors are the same! The fake lighting and suchlike...

It's because Jim Mann, the lead designer/company director of Lightwell lives in Nottingham, in fact their company address is/was his house!

Looking at those other pictures, could that backdrop be some sort of test/calibration picture? If not, it's a very weird design...

I wonder how comfortable those sofas are. They don't look something you could sit on for any long amount of time. In one region, they actually chucked a similar sofa away because it was giving the presenters back problems Very Happy

They are ok for short periods of time. I have the old Dermot and Natasha sofa in my garden, it's great for summer parties Smile and it's ok for sitting chatting, but not lounging Wink

It does. Another think I've realised are there are NO elements in the new backdrop that could animate. No TV screens, no fake people at desks, no lifts. It's going to be a still image. Not very interesting.

Does it not get wet??

The sofas aren't designed to be comfortable. They're designed to give good posture for the camera angles. I'm sure they're not so uncomfortable they give back problems.

That said, Gordon and co on North West Tonight seemed very happy to be rid of that bench thing they had from 2004, and they only ever sat on it for 15 minutes of a programme!

I find it interesting that the third shot includes images of the cameras, just as we were getting wide shots in TC7 of the cameras. Perhaps a transition to Salford, or I could be reading too much into it!

I wonder what was going through the graphic designers mind when they thought that including white rubbish bins in the virtual background would look like a good idea. Confused

Are they not plant pots?

The graphic was so blurred I didn't see the plants. That said, white blobs on backgrounds are one of the best things avoided as it can distract from the foreground. A bit like those red chairs.

Are you certain? I was looking through their recently-uploaded work for New Zeland's TV3 News the other day and was shocked by the stark difference in quality between that and this, but it is still visually similar to their other work. If it was indeed not done by Lightwell, surely it's highly unethical of the BBC to so blatantly copy their unique style?

The plasma on the other side of the pillar has computer screens.
