Even from the snippets we've seen from Broadcasting House it appears that they'll be very little evolution of the current look when the BBC moves there.

That's because the current look has been designed in anticipation of what Broadcasting House will look like when its ready.

That looks is already four years old though and actually was fairly dated even when it debuted - Lambie Nairn like to believe the swirls never happened. The current concept has been around for 13 years now - twice as long as the virtual blue era, and if moving to Broadcasting House isn't the opportunity to freshen things up what is?

From which studio did the original Breakfast Time come from, in the days of Frank Bough and Selina Scott? Was that even at TVC, or somewhere else in London?

I may be wrong but I think it came from Lime Grove.

It did, shared the same studio as used for Nationwide I think ?

I actually think the new set/studio looks awful! It looks awful for North West Tonight too, but it makes Midlands Today look spacious!

Shall we open a book then on when Breakfast will return to London due to further cost savings and integrating Breakfast with the BBC News team?

It's so ironic that with all these shows moving to Salford to make the BBC less London centric the BBC are doing as much as possible to ensure viewers don't notice the difference. This generic design is long due the axe and the new studio just looks like a step back to the current one - funny isn't it how it just looks like a cheap regional rip off of the national look! Laughing

If you're going to the effort of relocating everyone a few hundred miles up the M6 at least take advantage of the change and make everything feel fresh. Even from the snippets we've seen from Broadcasting House it appears that they'll be very little evolution of the current look when the BBC moves there.

Great points. I thought these big moves will be revolutionary in terms of overall look but it's not the case at all.

Trying to work out if that was a jibe at me being fat or not Razz

But no, I'd like the set if the lightboxes were slimmed down and plasmas closer together, also a more interesting background, these fake newsroom backdrops look awful because you can see how fake they are, I'd rather a static graphic or something.

It was Lime Grove, then TC2, then N2 and then TC7.

.

I find the "new" backdrop baffling, l.

The backings in the image shown have now been modified apparently. It is a studio that could be anywhere in the UK, and says nothing like "This is Salford".

I was under the impression the move to Salford would mean we would have a real backdrop for once, a la Daybreak. Bit disappointed we have to put up with the fake backdrop for longer.

That is because moving BBC Breakfast was a last-minute and illogical decision when it was discovered that there was still space available (and IIRC the BBC needed to fill that space for contractual reasons).

I believe that the building of the Media City came with certain grants to the BBC if it generated a certain amount of jobs. With the BBC cut backs, not enough would have been located in the new centre and the grant would have been forfeited. The only answer to the head count shortfall was to move a section up the M6, and Breakfast was the one with the right amount of numbers. No studio for them had been built or planned for, so they have converted office space. The other studios owned by Peel Media would have cost too much to have used.

They wanted a window on the outside although the occasional rising sun on a south facing window was too much for smart glass to cope with.
