Regarding the launch of the new website, it gives hints to the new graphics. FYI - they're all pretty much the same, just remade for HD with less red (more orange) and a more '3D' feel.

So Breakfast will be going out in HD? (Apologies if this has already been said, don't read the thread much)

And also, is this a sneak preview of the new titles?

Correct, Breakfast will be in HD.

And no, that is not the new titles.

Just from gregmc's comment saying "they're all pretty much the same", along with the fact that most of the Salford moves have seen lots of continuity.

I didn't spot any difference in the music. The title sequence is very much the same but different. Perhaps because they're in HD, the place names stand out a bit more; and I noticed they've added a fairly prominent 'Salford' to it.

That's a shame, because the current music is just terrible.

I think the first 'Breakfast' (as opposed to Breakfast News) titles were the best:

...although the titles that replaced those - with the same visuals, but a reworked theme - were also pretty decent:

Everything started going downhill with the look introduced in 2006. Viewers disliked the sparse and cold studio, and of course the Barco display was later changed to incorporate the yellows and oranges featured in the strange title sequence, which was apparently supposed to be a montage of sunrise imagery, but just appeared as a confusing collision of squares and rectangles. Curiously, three different versions of the BBC News logo appeared on the circular montage:

- The correct version in Gill Sans - | B | B | C | NEWS
- A similar version with Gill Sans | B | B | C | , but with the 'NEWS' text appearing in Swiss
- A version with Gill Sans | B | B | C | , but with sentence case 'News' in Swiss

...and these were played out completely at random. Here's the correct version of the titles, along with the rather ghastly music that turned the 'beep-boop-beeps' and strings up to the max:

...bringing us more or less to the present day (although I'd forgotten that the current look debuted with a black clock, rather than the red version now in use), with the current disco-ball titles and music that I can only describe as 'cheesy' - for some reason, that's the adjective that fits for me.

Yuk, yuk, yuk.

I'm slightly relieved to learn that a modified title sequence is on the way, but dismayed and distraught that the music will stay. Perhaps I'll write a strongly worded letter, and end up Newswatch - only for a BBC News producer to list all the reasons that my opinion doesn't really matter.

If you're lucky. Only some people get that. Snoddy just laughs most people off.

What really doesn't work in the current title sequence is the horribly cobbled on endboard with the nasty dark grey text; the music often ends up quite a bit out of sync too.

The 2005 theme (and 2000 sequence) is still to be bettered.

"Or why not follow us on twitter?" - because you tweet maybe once a week (saying "watch the show tonight"), most of the time not at all?

The one thing that has always looked rubbish to me is the end formup of the titles, this:

*

The box and the clock just look horrid and misaligned and the grey "BREAKFAST" text looks so much like an afterthought going over the "orbs" urgh..

Now compare with a mock by our own MDTA which solves both problems and provides a visually more interesting formup too.
