And the fact the News Channel doesn't cut away on the weekends, so there is no need for two studios to be used.

The News Channel doesn't cut away because it can't - Breakfast is using N6. In the week the NC cuts away at 0830 because Breakfast comes from TC7. Saturdays are worse than Sundays because you have to wait until 1000 for the NC.

Kind of chicken and egg - does it not cut away because it's in N6 or is it in N6 because it doesn't need to cut away.

For continuity across the weekend it has to be in N6. TC7 is used at 0900 on a Sunday for The Andrew Marr show and in fact some weekends it is earlier than that. The studio would simply not be ready in time.

I will never know why they got rid of that Blue Sky set.

The same reason Sky News got rid of the globe from their titles, and the same reason why GMTV mucked up their last set, because they can't leave things alone, and backs down to a dozen complaints.

TV presentation seems to be looking cheaper and cheaper every year from all TV channels.

BBC One's idents looks and sounds like a kid's channel idents and ITV1's idents for an Entertainment channel? - its like fairy land.

The blue backdrop looked nice against the orange and red colourscheme, and just broke it up a bit.

Funny how almost everyone on here seemed to hate the clouds background when they launched, but now they're talked of with the fondness of the BBC One balloon.

I think the trouble with the clouds was having a relatively plain background with large areas of the same colour made the joins between the Barco screens much more obvious (even to people other than Worzel). Having a busier background tends to disguise them somewhat.

I'd actually rather like Breakfast to be presented from the Andrew Marr Show set, or something like it, though that may end up causing more problems than it solves, if there are early starts, and presumably rehearsals. Could always simulcast on News Channel...

The other main criticism of the clouds was that they appeared to make the background look as if it was made from cardboard! The cloud images were static and faded so slowly into each other that the background really lacked depth.

As well as the fact that everyone seemed to think that the sky would start off with a nice sunrise, changing as the programme went on. Which, unfortunately, never happened.

I think the idea was actually sound - and refreshingly different ("blue sky thinking" you might say, ho ho) - but the implementation was far from perfect. Perhaps now that they are used to the Barco screens they might have been able to do a better job.

Is it me or is Kate sitting on a cushion (or just more upright)? She looks higher than Bill (especially if you look at the knee line between them).

Also - re the clock: when passing to Look North Leeds, the clock and title strap swap places - do the regions get briefed of changes, so that there is uniformity on presentation?

No one's mentioned their fancy new mugs Razz

Kate has had a recent back operation and this is the reason she's not sat as she should be. it was in her interview in the Mail last week. Might also explain why she's using a laptop.

Thanks for that info. I don't normally read the papers that much (and if I do, it's not normally tha Daily Mail), so was unaware of Kate's interview.

How much do these mock titles look than the current ones?

I think they look much better

They do these generic BBC NEWS endings for all related news shows has gone to far. Those titles should be what is used even though they are almost identical to the 2000 ones visually.

As you say it doesn't really need to break away at weekends as there is not as much news for the NC to deal with. No Business markets are open, not much political stories break, no major engagements tend to take place, it wouldn't be worth it.

Whilst reading the standards document on BBC URLs today I noticed this

3.5.2. Presenters SHOULD NOT say 'email us', followed by the display of a BBC URL on-screen. In these instances, the actual related BBC email address MUST be shown.

do breakfast still use that horrible
email: bbc.co.uk/breakfast

strap or have they gone back to promoting the use of breakfasttv@bbc.co.uk ?
