Looks like Steph has been made permanent according to Hugh Pym's twitter:

Congratulations to @steph_mcgovern - appointed Breakfast Business presenter after succesful recent stint - good luck Steph

Presumably she is going to Salford then?

I thought she was already moving to the Business Unit in Salford, just didn't know which programme she'd be with?

Is the entire business unit moving? Does that mean that Show Me The Money and On The Money will move to Salford? At present it uses one of the old 5 Live Studios in TVC.

I don't know if everything's moving, but I'm sure there's a business unit in Salford.

Google has answered my own question:

The business unit will also be moving two teams to Salford, Manchester next year. The teams will cover Breakfast business and 5 Live Business - consisting of 15 of the 170 strong economics and business department. Salford will give a reach out to a new and diverse business community, although the weight of coverage will continue from London. For ‘Wake Up to Money’ they are looking at a split presentation format coming from both Salford and London.

I'm quite pleased that Steph McGovern has got the permanent Breakfast gig. She's done a really good job since that awful Sam Washington left. It's also quite nice hearing a northern accent on the national news.

I know it's the festive season, but was it really necessary to air the Bake Off feature during the NC simulcast?

Christmas Eve is Sophie Raworth.
Christmas Day is Jane Hill.
I think Boxing Day is Fiona.

I think it's quite good that the BBC still bothers to produce Breakfast even over Christmas. They could quite easily just provide a simulcast of BBC WN, or a hybrid service for both to save money.

On Christmas Day/Boxing Day/New Years Day it's very much a basic 30 minute bulletin followed by a taped programme. It's not Breakfast the way it is the other 362 days a year

As for simulcasting with World, the issue would be what happens if a domestic story breaks - as it did last year with Joanna Yeates body being discovered on Christmas Day. Covering it in the world commercial breaks wouldn't have been adequate. Yet I doubt the vast majority of world viewers would be interested in more than a token mention of the story. They get away with a joint service overnight when hardly anyone watches, but I don't think it would be acceptable all day, even at Christmas. And then there would be issues such as the paper review (not Christmas Day obviously) and sport to consider. A clearly identified hour or two off peak from World simulcasted on the news channel would be welcome to add some variety and cover international stories the news channel may not, but I don't think breakfast is the right time to do this

An acceptable reason for continuing with a domestic programme, of course, as the country doesn't grind to a halt. But when you consider what ITV1 offers during national holidays (programmes for children only), the BBC seem rather more committed to providing at least some semblance of a normal service for those who still have to work over the holiday period (and those who quite like to be informed).

It might save money but would end up with a bulletin that isn't fit for purpose on any channel.

They aren't producing 'Breakfast' anyway, they are basically airing a simulcast of the BBC News Channel branded as Breakfast with a few Breakfasty bits. If you suggest that they shouldn't bother doing Breakfast at Christmas because hardly anyone is watching, maybe they should close the News Channel for 48 hours as well?!
