Back to GMB I go.

GMB will probably gain some viewers today thanks to this very poorly implemented "revamp" of Breakfast.

Talk about an over-reaction. I think you’ll find that the vast vast majority of BBC Breakfast viewers couldn’t give a fiddlers about the title sequence and actually watch the programme for the content.

A bit of perspective FFS.

Of course in the real world it’s a mad rush with a glimpse of a story but we are tv pres enthusiasts and that’s why we are.

Well, James Mobbs did reply to one Twitter poster implying that it wasn't worth getting up for early - at the time I thought it was an odd bit of self-deprecation.

Now we know he knew he was right all along.

Given Chris Cook suggested there's a set change in 2019, I would much prefer them to have stuck with things as they are and then relaunch proper next year.

It's more the case that one fears BBC presentation refreshes rather than anticipates them these days.

Given Chris Cook's alluded set change, would that include BBC NWT?

I think Breakfast could adopt its own style of graphics that don’t conform to the BBC News lower thirds. Breakfast is, after all, a program in its own right. GMB manage to have their own graphics, but retain a link with ITV News.

Victoria Derbyshire is the perfect example of that, which isn’t the flagship breakfast programme.

I think it’s all a little bit dull, I’m afraid: a shot of Salford and a logo, effectively two stings rather than proper titles and they’re still using the “wipe from the bottom left to top right” that was ditched by BBC News in 2013. I noticed the placenames fading to restart the graphic on the BBC Sport screen which always feels a bit tacky rather than a proper loop. And yes, doesn’t quite make sense that the graphics on the backdrop weren’t changed.

Music’s probably the best thing about it, but even that still feels very similar in style to that which was introduced in 2006.

I would agree with a poster above that it would have been better to leave it be until the set was changed - give it a proper refresh so it doesn’t feel stuck in the early 00s. Good Morning Britain has its faults but it’s miles ahead in presentation.

PS - come winter, will we see a pitch-black Salford, suspend reality or will they use the orange sting?

How does the studio compare in size to Leeds? If there was space, the World Cup was the perfect opportunity to present from the Sport studio while the same kind of Studio B inspired set Leeds have just got was installed.

Not much to add really except to say that I don’t even think the music is that good. A trend in David Lowe’s music of late is that he is obviously out of ideas (or constrained by the BBC?) and is trying to be creative with what is essentially a 20-year old design brief by adding fussy elements that just creates a sense of messiness. The original themes before 2003 were and always will be the best. They weren’t complicated but they were very satisfying. Not like the music we have now.

A load of fuss and nonsense about nothing.....
this is the most hyped nothing ever

You're watching TV Forum....

It wasn’t hyped up by us though, surprisingly!

I’m probably in the minority, but I really like the new openers for Breakfast. Although what I would say is that the studio lighting and backdrops could have been refreshed to adopt the cleaner, fresher opening. You wouldn’t even need a new set to do that.

I actually think the new title stings look decent and nicely made. It's just a shame they've not made a bit more of them. A few extra shots of other locations around the UK at breakfast time could make a really nice title sequence.

What will do they winter when it’s dark and bleak out there, those titles will look even odd.
