The easiest way to compare is when you see the excruciating chats between Kelly and Dan Wooton and then the post 8.30 slot on Breakfast. Yes, it's more relaxed on Breakfast, but there is a sense of a commitment to the arts and entertainment (bar the Love Island nonsense on one edition) than you'd get on Lorraine which is tabloid fodder.

Funny that, given that they and most of their contributors write columns in tabloid newspapers! Not being highbrow is not something to be ashamed of.

It’s supposed to be tabloid fodder.

They spoke about Love Island more than once it wasn’t just last week.

Goodness I'd forgotten how dumbed down GMTV was judging by that video - like a tabloid on TV. Paris Hilton, Nancy Del'Olio, surgery gone wrong - clearly tackling the heavy news items of the day. And the lead item would've fitted right in on a Mail front page 'Parents too afraid to let kids play outside!'.

I know GMTV was never Newsnight but come on!

At one point after 8:30 they gave up completely and showed cartoons, presumably to compete with the CBBC Breakfast show on 2.

Explain “gave up completely”

It was normal for kids shows to air after 8:30 during holidays

That videos from the summer holidays but I remember them doing it during other times when schools weren't off.

Well, they did show cartoons at 7.30 for many years, but that was a tradition of breakfast telly dating back to TV-am, when it was felt important to have a kids' spot on breakfast TV in the days before CBBC on BBC2 and the like. But they wouldn't have done them at 8.30 outside of the school holidays, as the audience would have been in school.

The 7.30 kids' spot on GMTV was initially a fully-fledged spot called Alarm Alert with Simon Parkin, but it was one of the earliest casualties of the failure of the original GMTV, not least because every kid in Britain was watching The Big Breakfast, so they soon jettisoned that and just ran cartoons instead. Then GMTV bought Power Rangers and every kid in Britain abandoned The Big Breakfast and watched that instead.

Didn't think she was that old. She has presented the BBC's triathlon coverage this year - hopefully her competing means she'll do the links on the Gold Coast rather than in some random Salford office.

This morning, they just aired the old disco ball sting from 2012 by mistake. Oops!

It must have been the NC playing that out. I was watching on BBC One and they just played the new full screen orange closing sting (no background image of MediaCity). By the time I'd switched to the NC they were already back to the sofa.

The version on iPlayer shows the old sting at the end, not the new one.

The NC HD feed had the orange sting into the countdown.

This wasn't into the countdown, this was into Match Of The Day.
