Why did they go to Jimmys?

Why didn't they use either Royal Salford (formerly known as Hope Hospital), or, even better, Trafford General, which was originally used as the backdrop to the start of the NHS.

Why not go to Leeds? Just because they are based in Salford? It's a Breakfast show for the whole of the UK they don't have to just take the easy option.

Exactly. Being Salford-centric would be as bad as being London-centric.

Things like decamping to Glasgow during the 2014 Commonwealth Games is exactly the sort of thing that Breakfast should be doing, to reflect the whole UK.

I didn't have a problem where where they chose, just why they wanted to do the WHOLE programme from there, as it clearly presented technical challenges with which they struggled.

Normally one presenter would host the OB portion, with another back in the studio providing the main news updates, links to business and a backup if anything fell over.

This time they had both presenters, together with Carol doing the weather, all from one location. The disjoint when swapping between the different presenters when they were reporting away from the 'sofa in the corridor' was unpleasant to watch.

I entirely agree, Austin, and at such locations they can simply plug in to the existing temporary infrastructure that BBC Sport or News are operating for the planned event.

I don't think this one appeared as if it was thought through; unless they just had unfortunate gremlins in the works for the whole portion I watched.

Says it all when a hospital corridor provides a better set for Breakfast than its permanent studio.

Ha ha! 😂

Glad they used the new titles over an outside shot though. Shows how versatile it is - much more so than the main BBC News titles.

The start titles are too short, the end titles played on a weekend is much better.

They are not titles, they are a blink and you'll miss it sting.

Considering that Trafford General was used by the then Government to launch the NHS services, then, again, I ask, why not return there 70 years later.

Nothing to do with being Salford-centric but Trafford General was the pin-up hospital of the NHS at the time!

Commonwealth Games in one thing as they are on everyday for almost 3 weeks, and the cost would be minimal, whilst decamping a breakfast show from one side of the Pennines to the other for only 1 broadcast will have cost, in ratio, a lot more.

How exactly do you know they didn’t try other hospitals? These things don’t just magically appear overnight - it takes a lot of careful planning and months of preparation.

I didn't see the show, but I'm assuming they will have got some clips from the YTV series Jimmy's that was made there about 30 years ago and done a comparison of then and now?

That would be a good reason for going to Leeds rather than any random other hospital.

Breakfast seem to have dropped the Business / Weather in the studio area. I think it was about the same time as the new graphics. It now seems business is a conversation between the main presenters and business presenter now. I’m not quite sure how they deal with guests - perhaps the table only returns for that.

I haven't noticed any change to the Business segment. They certainly had a guest the other day around the table, and also a feature with the Business presenter of the day alone at the table.

They have always done breaking business news with the presenter of the day at the sofa, or when doing a review of the papers if there is a related item high on the news agenda.

Yes but on the occasions I saw neither of these seemed to fit but clearly it's just occasional- a bit like the use of the World Cup Hub.

The first presenter shots on this morning's BBC Breakfast (after both the 1st and 2nd titles stings) were split-screen.

Louise Minchin on the left, on the Salford studio sofa. Charlie Stayt on the right, stood outside Parliament. Labelled as "Studio" and "Westminster", respectively.

It all felt a bit "Beyond 100 Days".

The 1st sting did not start with the big clock in the middle ticking over from 05:59 to 06:00.

I seldom see BBC Breakfast, as I usually leave for work before 6am. Has there been any previous variance in whether or not the big clock appears during the 1st sting, or has is been permanently dropped at some point?

If weekend TOTHs are still routinely late, I can certainly understand a clock-less version being used then.
