I'm only just watching it properly back now. The TOTH sequence almost feels like it's building to a title sequence after the initial sting / news headline / main sport and business headline / weather overview.

Isn't this the pattern we had during the Rio Olympics?

Instead all you get is another anti-climactic sting. Oh well.

Didn’t they do similar in 2016 with drone shots, the only difference the music was superb and led into the sports studio dramatically, so this drone concept is not even a new idea, a 2 second title sequence imho is disappointing for Britain’s main breakfast programme.

I don't dislike the new opening (to be fair it is nice to have something different after 9 years) but as said above it looks stupid to still have the old disco ball in the background. And if they are getting a new set next year, could they not have waited til then? Typical BBC News, doing a revamp in stages.

I like the short and snappy intro. It makes the show feel more fresh, but it’s a massive shame they did not change those awful images on the screens. The music is quite nice, and the added notes towards the end reminds me of a song, but I can’t think which one.

It actually doesn't surprise me that it wasn't a full-scale refresh today. This is a programme that clearly has resisted change for change's sake for quite some time design-wise. Case in point: the move from London to Salford in 2012 pretty much saw a virtually identical (albeit smaller) set and virtually identical titles with 'Salford' dropped in.

What grates with me - more than the way the title sequence has been reduced to stings - is the half-baked approach to it. The remnants of the disco ball in particular smacks of a lack of attention to detail. Either do something well or don't do it at all.

Still. It is what it is.

I get the impression that with this lack lustre refresh, BBC Breakfast will have another re-jig of the titles by September, and these will be used just for the summer, with a better opening coming on Monday 3rd September. If they don't go down well with the public, productions always alter. It happened in 2006, when there used to be white clouds and blue sky backdrop to the relaunched BBC Breakfast, that was quickly replaced with a warmer backdrop based on the opening titles within a few weeks if I remember right?

There are 8 different versions of the skyline to use. Which one to be aired is at the directors discretion.

Those circle wipes need some motion blur.

Needs a proper title sequence, oddly enough the shows before BBC Breakfast is done properly such as the Briefing, Business Briefing, proper title sequences, proper vamps, so if it can be done there, why can’t these high standards be applied in Salford?

The music is ok I guess but the titles again comparing it to Impact, Business Briefing, Afternoon Live is pretty poor.

Is another way of looking at this that they wanted to minimise the changes that took place with the move - remember one lead presenter left the programme then as did many people off camera.

Is a new set guaranteed next year or a hope? I've worked on many projects where you have to take a decision is it better to proceed and have achieved something or better to not proceed and do it all in one hit. Unfortunately sometimes then that project doesn't proceed and you haven't made any progress.

We also must not underestimate internal politics. Breakfast retains a BBC News logo so I imagine Salford don't have free reign to do as they may wish.

I would have preferred Breakfast to have changed their lower thirds entirely so they are consistently orange (along with the clock). As Victoria Derbyshire has it proves that it could be done (if the political will is there). Ot would however mean that the regionally bulletins would then be off brand - but then most probably already are being some concoction of Breakfast and BBC News.

I don’t think BBC Breakfast should change the lower thirds redesigning it just needed to be coloured and skinned correctly it can be done, look at Hardtalk for example.

Victoria Derbyshire is more of a magazine format/topical debate type of show which shouldn’t be on the bbc news channel but that’s a different arguement altogether.

It's basically the same. No set changes, no graphics changes, only the titles, music and wipes were changed.
Rather disappointing to be honest. Also, with the old look disco balls and colour scheme still on the screens, it leaves it looking very, very inconsistent.

Anyway, here's the opening:

This is just a minor niggle, but it irks me how the countdown ends on shots of NBH and the Breakfast titles start on a shot of a separate building which is miles away... (Although I'm not sure how many people will be paying that much attention to the News 24 countdown at 05:59...)

I don't mind the new music and stings. I hope they will have different versions depending on how light it is outside, but as they don't change the brightness of the studio background, that might be a bit jarring.
