Charlie Stayt is the new man at Breakfast!!!!
And he starts this weekend presenting with Kate Silverton on both Saturday and Sunday. He's also presenting on Good Friday with Kate.
It looks like he's the new third presenter, replacing Simon McCoy.
Great to hear that Sian is to become the full-time presenter of Breakfast. I've been enjoying the programme so much more since Kerplunk went to the Six.
I'd guess if she's going to be away on maternity leave we could be seeing rather more of Kate Silverton on the Breakfast sofa.
But they are going to need to get someone else to replace Mishal as well. I hope Susana makes a return, i have not seen her on News 24 since she has had her baby, is she back, or if not does anyone know when she will be back?
One thing we do have to bear in mind, however, is that Kate Silverton has her own shift anyway on N24 and is scheduled to keep it in the reshuffle therefore a permanent move to Breakfast is incredibly unlikely.
I anticipate that Susanna Reid will be returning soon and that will cover for Mishal and I'm sure that Sian won't be disappearing from our screens suddenly - I'd expect at least another four or five months at least, depending on the state of her pregnancy. If we calculate this forward then it takes us to around about the time of the new Breakfast set so we could have a whole new set of presenters for the relaunch (with this press release indicating only the near future).
Alternatively, Moira could present the programme as Louisa Preston and Susanne Virdee are both available for the news summaries throughout the week. I suppose the news summaries could even be read by Chris Hollins (sport) or just scrapped entirely with the main presenters reading the news from the sofa.
Last time I spoke to her, Moira told me that she is not keen on being on the sofa permanently, because she prefers to have her very own Moiradesk, positioned on a suitably elevated platform, and miles away from all the other riff-raff!
Joking aside, I don't see why they don't give her a chance, r2ro. When acompanied by another presenter (Murnaghan or Turnbull), I am sure that she would be fine.
But as insiders will know, you gotta be careful with Moira, because she has the heartiest laugh in television (second only to Rustie Lee), and if she gets a fit of the giggles on the sofa with Turnbull, the programme may have to be pulled off air!!
I think that's another reason why she prefers the tranquility of her own little island and desk.
Really nice feature at 7.50am this morning with Kate standing up in the area between the sofa and the newdesk, complete with Judith Chalmers and an easyjet hand baggage stand. Full shot of an empty newsdesk behind Judith, with no chair behind it. But how I would have loved to see Moira sitting there, watching all this in awe in the background!
They seem to be having so much more fun in TC7 these days - spose they wont be there for that much longer.

Interesting, as he's on Sky News Today this morning. And saying that Simon is the third presenter, it's like Kate & the whole maternity cover thing, he does have his own shift on News 24.

Its welcome news to hear that Charlie Stayt is making a return to presenting tv news again. I 've missed his assured presentation on Five News . Even if it's only presenting Breakfast it's good that he's back on a mainstream show again.
