Oh BTW you could see a new face on Breakfast next month ... one that will be familiar to some viewers of other channels Wink

You're such a tease. It's like the dance of the seven veils with you. Or in this case FIVE veils may be more appropriate.

Seems to smack of Charlie Stayt... or are we talking more recent/obscure than that?

I'm going to take a guess and go with Penny Smith. She's been at GMTV forever, and is by far the most engaging presenter they have. That said, at GMTV, that's not saying much even if you like Penny as much as I do!

She also recently proved herself very popular (if an atrocious singer) on the BBC's "Just the Two of Us" by displaying the kind of personality Natasha Kaplinsky WISHES she had. Plus she and John Stapleton are the only "hard news" element of GMTV, so I can see that BBC bosses might want to exploit that... and I for one would be all for it.

Other possibility: Nina Hossain - I'm not a big fan... but it seems her role at ITV has been greatly diminished, and given her past role at BBC London, it's very plausible it could be her.

Outside bet: Katie Derham (Don't ask me why... I just wouldn't be surprised)

Spot on! She should have had the gig when Kaplinsky was recruited. How the BBC think that NK has anything to offer is quite beyond me.

So, would I now be right in saying that a) we can expect a new presenter/"personality" from the other side and b) that there will be some changes with Breakfast?

Im guessing JOhn Nicholson, he was a loss when he went. A great mix of gravitas and humour. Just what Breakfast needs at mo. Why tho, that is the question? Dermot moving in the 10/04 re launch?

Is it going to be someone at the newsdesk, or someone fronting the main prog? Will this person replace Mishal - surely she must be due to go on maternity any time soon?

I'm tempted to put the arsy "How sick" reply but that's made me chuckle. I know it was a stupid phrased question...

I stand by my previous answer.

I doubt the BBC would take Nina back, they made it pretty clear their feelings at the time. Also, IMO Penny suits GMTV and for me she would seem out of her depth on Breakfast. But I'm sticking with my guess, John Nicolson as he's been there before and he's just...great.

I'm agreeing with John Nicolson but as ever with the BBC we could get a big surprise!
