Because Breakfast is an unimportant, uninspiring mess that is on every day of the year. The Commonwealth Games come round once every 4 years, and it deserves to be shown on the main channel...just like the Olympics etc are too.
Get over yourself: it's only for a couple of weeks. No one cares about local news...infact...99.99999999% of the viewing public won't even notice there's been a change.
Im afraid youre very wrong. Around 6 million people tune into BBC1's local news programmes each evening. Many people care.
Mostly lag from the national news.
BBC London news is simply awful. BBC Midlands Today is so cringworthy, it should be taken out and shot. Points West is so terribly bad, it sould suffer a fate worse than death.
Anyway, even if people DO care about it, the only people who are moaning about it not being on digital for a 2 week period during a MAJOR sporting event, are the people on this board.

God knows why certain people at the Beeb don't seem to get that you can't opt really well on BBC2 England. I'm sure they'll still do it after 2012 until they realise it's impossible.
Why not just leave breakfast on 1 and the games on 2. Or else stump up the cash to do opting on 2. It's just a mess now.

The Commonwealth Games are not a MAJOR sporting event to most people. As an example, Canada's CBC are not having any live coverage - there is an hour of highlights at 3 in the afternoon (until a few weeks ago no broadcaster in Canada wanted it at all).
If you think only people on this forum are bothered by it, you're mistaken.

I presume the reason Breakfast is on BBC2 during the games is because of the interactive content being provided.
As far as I understand it, if you're watching a BBC interactive channel (301 etc on DTT), it can only take you to BBC1 via the interactive menu. I presume this is the same via £ky boxes too.

The interactive streams are quite seperate and are referenced through a "boot" PID. When you press red on any channel the STB logic will look in that channel's unique boot PID for navigation detail to the appropiate menu.
So they are not locked to any particular channel. BBCi, for example, has seperate streams referenced from each channel.

Yes, you can access BBCi on BBC TWO during events such as Wimbledon and access the main BBCi page.

What I meant was when you're on the interactive menus, screen 1 is BBC1, Screen 2 is 301, Screen 3 is 302 etc etc for which event you want to watch

It's only BBC1 on screen 1 because the Games are on BBC1.
If they put them onto BBC2, then Screen 1 could be BBC2 Or they could use BBC3/CBBC or N24 if they wanted.

Ah, OK. I thought it was part of the integral programing of boxes

I Sky Plused Breakfast yesterday - and at 6:25 BBC London news was shown... but then for the rest of the programme (ie from 6:55 to 8:55) we got the newspaper review...
explain that?
explain that?

Because at 0550 BBC London told the TC7 Gallery that they were unable to opt - so TC7 took the editorial decision to sustain with BBC London rather than London have NO Regional news. They sorted themselves out after that and were able to opt themselves for the rest of the programme.
