Bill and Mishal did a little explanation of 'how to tune to analogue' before the regional opt-outs this morning - even had an aston with website address and phone number for further info!

They did an in-depth newspaper review on digital.

You may have noticed that the Commonwealth Games are now underway in Melbourne - until Sunday 26 March.

Because the games are being shown on BBC One, Breakfast has been given a temporary home on BBC Two until the games finish.

Below we've outlined how the changes may affect your viewing.

There's also a helpline number further down the page if you still need an answer to your query.

# All you need to know:

# Until Sunday 26 March, Breakfast will only be available on BBC Two, on analogue and digital; coverage from the Commonwealth Games will be on BBC One

# Breakfast will be on-air, on BBC Two from 0600 finishing 15 minutes earlier at 0900, Monday to Friday

# The main effect of the move to BBC Two is that you will not be able to watch your regional news if you are using a freeview, digital cable or digital satellite box

# If you want to see your local news you will have to switch to BBC Two on analogue - via your TV aerial digital viewers will see an extended newspaper review but will be given a warning to switch to analogue for their regional news

# If you're wondering why the change is so complicated, it's mainly because of technical reasons that prevent the regional news from being broadcast on digital services

# You can get more technical advice from a special number: 08700 100 789

# There's also more information on how to receive BBC services from the 'reception' website
BBC reception website

# The changes are being made because the Commonwealth Games a re such a major sporting event, and we are obliged to show events on BBC television

# There will also be one or two other changes to analogue regional programmes for the duration of the games: The East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire region will share it bulletins with BBC Yorkshire for technical reasons.

Unfortunately, again for technical reasons, Channel Island viewers will not be able to receive a regional bulletin at all during Breakfast News.

Some viewers in Kent may also find they are watching London news instead of news for the South East.

Unsurprisingly, it fails to mention that it does not affect viewers in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.

God knows why certain people at the Beeb don't seem to get that you can't opt really well on BBC2 England. I'm sure they'll still do it after 2012 until they realise it's impossible.

Why not just leave breakfast on 1 and the games on 2. Or else stump up the cash to do opting on 2. It's just a mess now.

Because Breakfast is an unimportant, uninspiring mess that is on every day of the year. The Commonwealth Games come round once every 4 years, and it deserves to be shown on the main channel...just like the Olympics etc are too.

Get over yourself: it's only for a couple of weeks. No one cares about local news...infact...99.99999999% of the viewing public won't even notice there's been a change.

So what's the point of doing regional broadcasting?

Im afraid youre very wrong. Around 6 million people tune into BBC1's local news programmes each evening. Many people care.

So what was the change of format at 6.00 this morning then?

There was no breakfast briefing this morning. It was Bill and Mishal from 6 so perhaps that was it?

Were those titles ever used. They look dramaticly different and much more "morning" style compared to the current ones.

Something quite similar was used between 2000 and 2003 for the opt in from the regions. However, it wasn't quite as red.

Indeed - this is one that I remember:

http://thetvroom.com/images-bbc-one-news/breakfast/breakfast-2000/0801-sting-half-past.jpg

You can see the "sun rays" represented in the background but, as itsrobert says, far less red is used in this one.

Does anyone know the reasoning behind withdrawing that particular sting from the half hour? I thought it looked good and to be honest better than the other one posted (the one that didn't make it on air).

Sorry to go back a few pages, but interestingly this sting made a return today coming out of the regional (or non-regional) opts instead of the overhead wide-shot of the studio. Presumably it would have looked odd for digital viewers for them to have gone from the two-shot to the wide-shot and back again.

But not necessarily BBC One, one assumes?

I really can't comprehend why the Commonwealth games have to be shown on BBC1. What difference would it make if they were shown on BBC2? Nearly everyone who has BBC1 has BBC2. So the while the text says how important it is to show the games in the UK, it still does not explain why it can't be shown on a different channel which everyone can view instead of a major news programme being shifted and causing a huge cock-up with regards to the English regions. A good explanation would be greatly appreciated BBC.
