I have emailed Sian and I'm afraid she was very clever in not giving too much away....... I obviously wont cut and paste the email here as it's not the done thing, but she says the only reason she'll leave our screens is through exhaustion, and that she is far from tired yet. She told me she was very happy to be working across all bulletins and mentioned Breakfast, 1 and 6....as she finds it so much fun. Bless.
It's made me think she actually can't say what's happening because nothing is official, so Media Boy might be correct in saying Broadcast are wrong....... The wait goes on...
I agree that Natasha should be moved off of Breakfast as she has been doing so well on the Six. I'm a little disappointed that Mishal is going to be permanent as I feel that Sian is better and more suited for the weekday Breakfast programme with Mishal better for the weekend. To me it would make more sense, if the presenters had to remain the same, to have Bill and Sian (Mon-Thurs) then Dermot and Mishal (Fri-Sun). I'd say this as the latter two are clearly suited to a more newsier programme than weekday Breakfast is.
Maybe Sian did not want the weekday gig? It might not be a case of bosses shunting her for Mishal.
Indeed, the thing that annoys me most about this forum is that people treat presenters as pieces in a board game. It's as if all decisions have some ulterior motive and that they all come from the management. As you said, Sian may have been offered the main job but turned it down. She may have family commitments which prevent her from presenting the programme all week every week or she might just like being the weekend/relief presenter.
I do grant that factor as it is obviously the case, as is seen with Moira for example. I was just saying this is what I would have preferred and why though obviously the presenters will have the final say of whether or not they want to change shift.

Congratulations to Mishal, though. I've watched her on BBC World for several years (indeed, from her days as a business presenter) and always knew she was destined for a domestic programme. It'll be a shame for BBC World, though, as she was a very capable presenter.
I also agree that she is a very capable presenter - it just surprises me that she is going on Breakfast as lead presenter where the weekday programme has quite a lot of light-hearted news as opposed to a strict bullletin, though she may have not been offered another post.
One thing that I am thinking is that with Dermot and Mishal as lead presenters, who are both much better suited for strict news bulletins, that when Breakfast relaunches this year then we are going to get a full news programme not a summary of what's going off in the country that morning.
So who's the new male anchor of the Six going to be? Anybody know or give some hints? Really annoyed Kaplinsky got the Six - Dermot and Jane would have been fab! Also, is Fiona staying with TEN?

I think Dermot and Sian would have been better together on the Six (with Jane and Bill as main stand-ins). I am surprised that Emily Matlis got Newsnight ( I know she did it a few times last year) but thought that Fiona would have been a great presenter on Newsnight, considering that she was a reporter on there before moving to the Six, then the Ten.

Didn't Maitliss only present Newsnight once, then all of a sudden - she's staff. I and others will draw conclusuons from that.

Twice actually if we're being picky! Maitliss on the whole is a competant presenter even if she has the irritating nodding head syndrome so many newsreaders have these days and also the fact she interrupts guests during an interview with constant ums and ahs and yes etc!

She presented it on two consecutive evenings last year. These appearances were sort of like her audition for the programme. The BBC stated that if she proved popular with the viewers then she would be asked back for a regualar gig.

If I recall, she actually presented three nights. I dare say that she was put through significant off-screen "tests" to assess her suitability as well, and she has also demonstrated a Paxmanesque lack of mercy in her interviews on BBC London.
Don't get me wrong - I'm not a Maitlis fan (I find her tiresome and somewhat lacking in both wit and charm), but I can see her talents, and I rather doubt that the decision to promote someone to a flagship news programme would be taken as lightly as you seem to think.
With reference to Ms Mishal Husain's move to Breakfast........
I haven't read or seen the quoted article that refers to this, but perhaps we are all barking up the wrong tree:
1) Ms Husain's current placement at Breakfast (weekdays and weekend mix) was ALWAYS only a temporary secondment from BBC World. It is not a permanent thing.
2) Perhaps her move to Breakfast is now permanent, however she will only be the secondary presenter (relief and weekends), but now in a permanent capacity, in the way that Ms Sian Williams used to hold this role.
3).......and, perhaps, Ms Williams in fact IS going to be the new weekday full-time presenter?
4) Regarding the website, I also wouldn't read too much into the removal of Natasha Kaplinsky's picture and profile from it. In fact, didn't the same thing happen with Ms Sian Williams' profile when she last undertook the extended secondment to the Six O'clock News? I can vaguely recall that her profile was also temporarily removed.
Being based in the UK, you guys will all be better placed than me to conclusively comment on all of the above. I am just throwing-in a few observations as I see them remotely.

Hold on to your hats, but I think I might actually agree.
Though I wouldn't go overboard, Ms Maitlis is good - slightly better than average but then nothing particularly special. Personally I find her interview technique very patronising and deliberately confrontational - "Oh look I'm interupting Ken Livingstone" does not equal good journalism.
But a competent autocue reader, and when she lets people speak, she oftens gets some good answers from the questions she asks. With time, I'm sure she'll be a controversial interviewer extraordinaire - but for now I don't think she'll live up to the standard one gets from Newsnight presenters.
