They were back this morning - unfortunately Sad , it looked much better without them!

Indeed........I too was gutted to see the return of those damned spotted panels this morning:

Perhaps we could have a collection and bribe someone in the Scenery Department to "accidentally" jam that door again (on a regular basis) Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

The set has only got a few more weeks left, before it is gone for good.

Has anyone else noticed Moira's legendary 'Morning to you' catchphrase has all but disappeared since she returned from her New Year break?

Mostly now she starts her bulletins with a standard and unremarkable 'Good morning'. I wonder if she's been ordered to make this change. I find it rather disappointing not hearing MTY from Moira. It's a bit like Frost without a 'Hello, good [insert daypart] and welcome' or Brucie (Forsyth, not Fiona) without a 'Nice to see you...'.

Come on BBC, let's have our 'Morning to you' back.

That's almost definately the Newsnight Review sofa and the Newsnight projection screen(s) backdrop (but with the usual Breakfast "airport/shopping mall" projected onto it, rather than newsnight purple-ness) - and with the Breakfast desk instead of the Newsnight Review desk.

Moira wasn't saying 'Morning to you' this morning, but it seemed like everyone else was.

I'm almost certain that the backdrop is just a picture on a big panel, and not a projection.

Keep a close eye on the join/"windowframe" when they're on a presenter two-shot: the two panels are often slightly misaligned.

Or, by the looks of it, screenshots taken with a camera directly from the TV screen...

It is indeed the Newsnight Review sofa (also used Mon-Thurs on ocassion in the other part of the set with the "archway" through to the main table.

Newsnight only have 3 projection screens AFAIK, and the "purple background" between them is just plastic or glass panels with "NEWSNIGHT" printed on them. The changing purple/blue colours come from the lighting, which reveals the letters against the lit plain background depending on the angle of the lights shining on them. That's what creates the "moving background" on Newsnight, not a complete back-projection set. ( I remember seeing this on a webcast once).

Breakfast's "Shopping Mall" Very Happy background is a cyclorama (I think that's the right word) and is therefore always available in the studio to be drawn out before the rest of the set is assembled. Hence the reason why that was one of the few pieces of the set available on Monday (other than the desks).

No doubt someone will come back and say this was a complete load of b******s Shocked

Apparently Dermot was down to his underwear in a game of strip poker with Moira the other day, well that's what Dermot just said in a bit of banter. Rather amusing to see them cut switch cameras to catch Moira's reaction after Dermot said that.

From the caps, and having watched Newsnight tonight I noticed that they used the main desk platform from Newsnight also (it's alot darker than the one for Breakfast). No wonder the sofa looked too big, it was never designed for it - since it is normally placed directly on the studio floor on Newsnight.

I think you'll find that Newsnight usually DO have the sofa on a rostrum or platform, and don't usually run with it sat on the floor. Newsnight, Breakfast, Sunday AM and The Politics Show all have rostra, because they are needed to get seated guests high enough to get decent camera shots. This is because the cameras in use in that studio are remote controlled, and the remote pan/tilt/zoom equipment raises the camera head by quite a bit, and the camera wouldn't be able to go low enough to get a nice shot if the chairs/sofa were just put straight onto the studio floor.
