I also immediately noticed the purple sofa this morning (assumed it was Newsnight's to cut down on some of the set changes). It was a while later that I noticed the change in the background. Certainly Moira's area now has a hint of purple Smile

The area immedately behind the sofa (only seen in the wideshot from Moira) now has frosted panels rather than the "bars" which I am sure were there before (I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong).

The sofa looked too big, and just didn't fit in with the rest of the set, or the generally red/orange graphics.

It's obviously either a slow breakfast news day or quite a few people have enquired as it's got a full article on the Breakfast website!

Breakfast

Apparently one of the scene doors on the studio jammed so they couldn't get the set in

Here are some pictures of today's set compared to other Breakfast sets (that I found on an old video tape):

This morning's set at 09.00:

The normal set at 09.00:

The old set at 06.00:

Then this morning's set at the end:

The normal set at the end:

And the old set at the end:

Looking back at the old set I feel that it looks more welcoming and more like a Breakfast programme than the others, though ironically there was less entertainment and it was more newsy than current.

It definitely makes the set look bigger, especially without that wooden lighting panel around the edges. I always thought that the wooden panel was a permanent fixture to the studio.

Although i think the pannels do not add anything to the set, one thing i have noticed from the screen caps is that the background looks disjointed in part. Maybe if the bbc revised the image in the background to get rid of the disjointed mismatch of all the buildings.

Looks a lot bloody better than the current mess. Certainly more, shall we say, appealing at 7 o'clock in the morning. The backdrop looked a lot better as well, I know it's an accident but they say some of the best things are unplanned...

Very nice.

From the caps, and having watched Newsnight tonight I noticed that they used the main desk platform from Newsnight also (it's alot darker than the one for Breakfast). No wonder the sofa looked too big, it was never designed for it - since it is normally placed directly on the studio floor on Newsnight.

I think, the Breakfast and Newsnight sofas seem to be the same size. I often did wonder whether they were actually the same sofa, but with a few "stretch covers" placed over them with the darker colour for Newsnight. Very Happy Very Happy

Obviously now I know different - and I should be ashamed Rolling Eyes of thinking that the BBC would come up with such a "penny-pinching" measure, when they can easily squander our licence fee on two sets of sofas for the same studio - Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

EDIT: Just realised, obviously the plasma screens where also locked in the cupboard yesterday morning!!!!

Indeed........I too was gutted to see the return of those damned spotted panels this morning:

Perhaps we could have a collection and bribe someone in the Scenery Department to "accidentally" jam that door again (on a regular basis) Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
