I don't understand the point of "Weekend 24". It doesn't have special titles, nor even "WEEKEND 24" spinning around the globe; it carries the generic BBC NEWS Tower; it carries some of the casual presentation of Breakfast, but a news agenda that is much less like Breakfast and more like a standard hour of N24 rolling news. Even the on-air references to Weekend 24 are limited.
Incidentally, the BBC NEWS Tower is still in use as I write this; the N24 Tower hasn't put in an appearance since the overnight simulcast.

they've done that since they changed "weekend 24" to being a 9-10 slot with the duty presenter and the second brekkie presenter

I have always thought the same about Weekend 24. IMO it is pointless and it would be easier to classify it purely as BBC News 24. I would have expected some Weekend 24 graphics, or even saying Weekend 24 at the end of the titles, but instead they use normal presentation.
On a point mentioned earlier on about the cropped tower, it was back to normal this morning and can't be something to do with the BBC News tower and ticker as they were both running together on Weekend 24.

Indeed. My other half came in the room at the time and thought they'd jumped on the standing-up news bandwagon. I had to explain it was only because 'novelty songsmith', Richard Stillnotdead was there with his piano.

There was a fantastic shot of Bill and Mishel standing up just the now. I hope somone got a cap. If not I think it'll be on again in an hour, it's part of the singing thing

Indeed, it looked super - if only the backdrop was Rear-Projection, then that would look great for the top story - them standing up, with an image fading on.

I have to admit it was a really professional looking camera angle and it is nice to see a little variety to the camera angles used. What would be nice to see would be the television screen, with a still of the Breakfast logo, and the presenters either side at the end of the programme so the camera could zoom in on the screen at the end.

I dont really understand the point of Weekend 24 anymore. I could understand it when Breakfast wasn't a seven day a week programme. I think it would just be better being part of Breakfast and run the programme till 10am on Saturday mornings. The only difference i spot between the two programmes is one presenter changes at 0900 and not a lot else
JA
W24 used to be a solo programme on N24, with titles that looked like a gay porn advert. It was then IIRC run on BBC 2 as a 4 hour programme (pretty much Bill/Sian, Breakfast running order) but it was all grouped as W24, all with N24 titles of the time. With the relaunch of Breakfast in November 02 I THINK came Breakfast 7 days a week.

Actually it was October 2000, but the Saturday edition was still called 'Weekend 24' until June 2004 with the simulcast on BBC Two afterwards with only one presenter and simply referred to as 'BBC Two joins BBC News 24.
During the summer of 2004 it was changed, called Breakfast (in line with the weekday and Sunday editions) and shown on BBC One rather than BBC Two during the Olympics and was follwed by In the Know. After this it returned to BBC Two on Saturday mornings but with the current format: with one presenter at 6, two at 7, with two also at 9 for Weekend 24 and only one afterwards on News 24. It returned to BBC One last month (which is better I think since Breakfast is on BBC One seven days a week).
I agree, though, I don't see the point of it. I still feel that the Breakfast presenters should remain on from 6-10 (Simon and Kate do four hours on News 24 on weekdays anyway) or if not then either with only one person on for an hour (if they must have the simulcast) or have two presenters on News 24 all morning.
