This programme is now completely diabolical, and needs axing from the News 24 schedule. Unfortunately I can't see this happening as the BBC can't afford to do this.

I really don't think Breakfast is that bad as it for the fact that it goes to 9.15 as opposed to 9.00. I do think it was better when it finished at 9 because there was some entertainment but not too much, as I feel there is at the moment.

This morning I caught a brief glimpse of Bill Turnbull - a very good presenter & correspondant who's been turned into a laughing stock - exercising his dog in the garden. This was apparently ahead of a spot on dog training. Whether this went out on News 24 or not I don't know, but if it did that would have been absurd. This on top of the Come Dancing rubbish and his wittering about bees, really is the final straw. I can't believe he's doing all this through choice, there must be some knob in BBC News making him do it to cater for the X Factor viewers who glaze over at the first mention of the word 'news'.

I don't think that Bill has become a 'laughing stock', just merely the subject for a bit of banter on a story that was being covered. Bill is, as you say, a very good presenter, and enjoys a bit of a laugh, as he starts most of the banter himself, and this adds life to the programme in the morning. For Breakfast, presenters need to be serious on the news stories and light hearted on the entertainment, which Bill is unlike Dermot who is a little too serious IMO. Perhaps a N24 World simulcast on News 24 would cater for those wanting wholly serious news and for those who like a summary of news, sport, business, weather and entertainment then they have Breakfast. Besides it is better than its terrestial rival

No wonder that News 24 starts well behind Sky in the viewer stakes and grows throughout the day - for the first 3 hours after 6am, there IS no news on News 24, just some stupid magazine programme which makes Look East seem like Panorama!

I agree really that N24 perhaps shouldn't show Breakfast instead, as highlighted above, a N24 World simulcast would be a good idea.

I hope the rumours of Breakfast moving to the N24 set are true, and that the agenda changes to match. Otherwise I think News 24 would be better served by simulcasting BBC World from 6-9.

AFAIK Breakfast is moving to N24 in February, no doubt with a whole new relaunch.

Indeed, no wonder - most N24 viewers switch to BBC One as then they can get their local news as well

If it's that diabolical, don't watch it. Simple as.

I 'm always going to have a problem when the presenter starts to become the focus of some story or it centers on their hobbies. When this happens too often then we are into Nationwide and That's Life territory.

I dont think the dancing show will leave a long lasting mark on BT's credibility as a presenter as it did to kaplinsky. As he has more in his personal stock.
However I 've seen too much of him on shows going on about Bees , Hens , flowers, making mead etc etc. ad nauseum . He should keep to keep that stuff to a minimum on the news because it's a bore for some viewers.

Really? When? All I ever see are little light hearted jabs at him from Sian or Natasha (who unsurprisingly works better with Bill than Dermot)

What a stupid thing to say. You could make the same point about any negative comment on this forum. The forum is here to discuss TV presentation.

The fact is there is no alternative on TV in the morning if I want to watch news, and the BBC should be providing an alternative rather than (presumably) copying GMTV.

But you do get news on BBC Breakfast. It's only after 08.40 that they actually do other things, like books, cinema, TV etc. Prior to that, it's news of one form or another.

I totally agree and I therefore wonder why people compare it to GMTV as the entertainment is only after this time.
Perhaps it would work better if it finished at 9.00 as this was the schedule from 8.40:
8.40 - Entertainment
8.45 - Entertainment Report
8.48 - Weather
8.50 - Entertainment
8.55 - Regional news
8.58 - Headlines
8.59 - Emails and Close
This to me was much better as it gave the entertainment but not too much, and you don't have the slow top of the hour at 9.00, as it restarts with having a news summary again. Currently it is:
8.40 - Entertainment
8.45 - Entertainment Report
8.48 - Weather
8.50 - Entertainment
8.55 - Regional news
9.00 - News
9.03 - Entertainment Report
9.05 - Entertainment
9.12 - Weather
9.13 - Close
And I think that the top of the hour is too slow and that sometimes the entertainment drags because there is three guests (at least) and, at least, two entertainment reports. I also think it is nice to close with a few emails.
Finish it at 9.00 again that's what I think.

Nice piece with Chris Hollins on Breakfast going back to the rugby pitch at his old school to demonstrate the difference between Rugby League and Union. Nice to see that Chris has tried to take things in a different direction to Rob Bonnett rather than attempting to emulate his style.

When I watch the show which isn't that often thankfully. Why do you think I'm inventing it all JH?

Some of the shows I've seen with him he's been on about his hens and their eggs and if they are laying or not. The matter of his honey and his bees invariably crop up when there is some bee story in the news. He even took a day off to go to a bee convention this summer.

Sian humours him when he mentions one of his hobbies. Natkap, if she's listening pretends to be interested.

It's a good thing Natkap isn't there anymore with Bill or we would be treated to countless tales of their dance hall days and wouldn't that be a joy. As it is Bill seems to have caught the showbiz fever and we are hearing plenty about his latest dance moves or injury.

In spite of this irrelevant nonsense he is the least irritating of the breakfast presenters

True, but still on GMTV you would have had Eamonn banging on about Manchester United, or now, lots of celebrity pap. Natkap usually ends up kicking Bill or breaking the studio. Simon and Kate are probably becoming the new Bill'n'Sian (TM) if that's possible - their chemistry is great and you can tell they really like each other, they're not just stuffed together because they're (relatively) young and (again, relatively) good looking.

I'm very pleased for Natasha that she got the 6pm job but do feel sorry for Sian however am glad she's taken over the main breakfast slot.

I cannot see why they are using Sarah Campbell to present the main show as she did this morning - i just can't take to her and feel they use her as no-one else is available - i don't mean to be unkind but comparing her with the other female presenters she's just not up to scratch but it's probably down to a lack of experience. Why doesn't Carrie Gracie fill the early morning slot when Sian or Kate S are unavailable? I'm also fed up of those who read news on BBC1 not covering for N24 colleagues - the channel is superior in my opinion.

Because that would mean her being on from 0700 - 1300. Unless Tim Willcox took her shift, but unlikely as he normally has the shift between Pete and Chris/Gwenan, plus Sunday mornings as well.

I agree about Sarah though - she's just not someone I "like". OK as a newsreader but not someone who has a great deal of chemistry with either Simon or Noel.
