If they want to persist in bringing-in a regional stand-in for Breakfast, they should consider the elegant, understated and thoroughly capable Sally Magnusson from Scotland. A former Breakfast Time anchor, she knows what to do and how to do it without all the fuss of some of the current visitors!
My vote: Sally Magnusson.

Hrmm, I think slowly she is improving... she does have a bit of chemistry with Charlie

Kate this morning, and looking like she's thrown her outfit together using my nan's tablecloth!
She is unbearable to watch on Breakfast.
In sharp contrast - how amazing did Susanna Reid look! Why oh why apart from the fact she may not want to work during the week don't the BBC give her the deputy's job.
More Susanna please.

Maybe her computer was broken

Was there any particular reason Kate had a laptop to the right of her? There's a computer in the desk.

Maybe her computer was broken
I would think its probably something to do with her back.
Having injured her back while filming for Big Cat Live a while back - it's probably very painful to present a 3 Hour programme from the sofa - with the PC screen in that low desk. A Laptop PC is probably more comfortable for her to use.
