When is Sian expected to be starting her maternity leave? I suspect Kate is doing it this week purely because of the fact it is half-term.

February according to online articles. Kate will almost certainly get it, and I really can't stand Louise much! I think she's quite good on Sunday Life (carries the program imo) and was good with Jon on the BBC News channel but it seems really rare for her to ever be on with him these days (she only seems to do it about 3 days a week at best and Jon's rarely there when she is). Can't stand her on breakfast, nor on the News at One or other BBC News bullitens, nor on the NC (if she ends up with someone like Tim Wilcox, someone like Jane, Joanna, Carrie or even Emily have some sort of gravitas it seems so workaholic wilcox doesn't wash it out too much - Louise doesn't it seems Confused ). I'd love to see any of those females I've just mentioned be given more chances on BBC1 news programs than Louise - she seems overated.

Oh, without the dash then - it was the same until this change, although they didn't give it out on air, they sent you to a form on the website.

Yup - the old email address still works though (breakfasttv@bbc.co.uk) and as someone said, it's purely because 5Live got there first nabbing breakfast@bbc.co.uk

The new address (bbcbreakfast@bbc.co.uk) is so it can be read on-air and put on the astons, instead of directing people to the website first

Hmm.

Personally I find Louise very credible on-screen - though agree Jane and Carrie also have gravitas. Louise is a former producer and has an excellent journalistic background - and this really shows when she's on the News Channel.

I'm very happy to see Louise, Jane or Sophie on the One O'Clock News and think they all have a good mix of presentation and journalistic abilities. Louise also has a good entertainment journalism background (she used to present Zero 30 and other News 24 entertainment stuff when the late Christopher Price wasn't around) so I think fits in really well on Breakfast., yet also convinced when she did the news bulletins into Sunday AM.

Kate's far better than Sian. I can't stand Sian, she's too 'fluffy' for national news. More suited to the regions, in my opinion.

Couldn't disagree more. Sian was originally supposed to be one of the launch Editors of News 24 (as she was a first rate senior producer), and only very late in the day was it suggested that she should move in front of the camera and try her hand at presenting. She has a very strong hard news background - and is a very competent journalist, as anyone remembers her presenting on News 24 will recall. She is probably more editorially aware than a lot of people producing her...

Sian can do fluffy very well when it is called for (and the latter 45 minutes of Breakfast are usually pure fluff), she can also do clear concise breaking news when required.

Breakfast has a "softer" remit - it is how they've manage to hammer GMTV in the ratings (after being quite a way behind in the days of Sophie and Jeremy) without resorting to the fluffy extremes of GMTV. Sian delivers that remit pretty well, but it doesn't mean that is all she can do.

If there is a major breaking story I'd far rather have Sian presenting than Kate. Sian is a journalist - Kate still appears to be more a very competent reader of autocue. Sian could safely write what she reads (and probably rewrites quite a lot of it). Not sure the same could be said of Kate?

Thanks for the background Noggin, I wasn't aware of Sian's production credentials. I only watch Breakfast about once per week, but a few weeks ago I was watching every morning for the financial news, and Sian seemed very keen to sweep it under the carpet and move on to the lighter news stories. However, I think her hair style is one of the better styles among the news readers! Smile

Speaking of writing noggin, could you explain in which circumstances presenters write their own scripts? I was under the impression national presenters do but what about Breakfast and News 24 (I assume the latter they don't)?

The profile on the Breakfast website (not sure if it's still on or been updated since about three/four years ago since I last looked) said that she was a producer and the person who was due a screen test didn't turn up so instead of wasting time Sian gave it a go and it went from there.

I can answer about Breakfast as Bill mentioned on air (I think when they were changing studios) that the presenters don't write the scripts for Breakfast. I believe they turn up and have a bit of a read through.

Surprised this hasn't been mentioned in here yet.

Duff talkback, and a grumpy Bill Oddie. Bill Turnbull gives as good as he gets.

Yes I saw that on another forum. We've set up Oddie watch to see what shows he'll be interviewed on and will be miserable. He's gotten worse in his old age and Turnball seemed exasperated at the end of it.

So embarrassing.

Too early in the morning for Mr Oddie? If they hadn't been arguing amongst themselves and talking all over each other then maybe they'd be able to hear each other properly. Pretty awful.
