You know what, the lighting this morning appeared to make the set appear warmer, certainly moreso than N6...

Well the studio they are in now is a proper studio with a decent lighting grid at a decent height - so you'd hope it would be.

It did look much warmer, but yes the backdrop looked a bit streched on the virtical side. But it was much better than it was in N6 all round plus TC7 is quite a bit bigger.Could they not go for a more structual set like The Am shows at least thats not all screens. But sian liked it. Exclamation
So what happens to N6 now /when does work start.
I assume from today - if they could prevent the six/ newsround and ten/newsnight problems for any longer I'm sure they would...

I wouldn't hope for much in the way of visual changes, the main work is to allow N24 to broadcast from their, routing video/audio etc, I doubt they'll be much/any change to N6 itself but more its gallery and communication stuff.

The other problem i saw was when Breakfast was in N6 the sofa was positoned on the floor, meaning the camera was tilted down slightly on the sofa, making it seem less imposing, now with the camera being level, it seems to take up much more of the screen. I gess it is just a little niggle that i will have to get used to.

Though equally it is now an advantage as well - as the eyelines of the presenters are better, with the camera more at eye level - which is usually a nicer shot for a face - rather than tilted down as previously.

surely the height of a camera can be adjusted to accommodate this? surely a camera isn't just tilted up or down to frame a shot of someone sitting down, whether or not the couch is on a tray? surely the actual height of the camera is adjusted appropriately?

If you'd read noggins previous post, he explained that many of the cameras in the news studios are operated remotely so have a large pan/tilt head on top of the pedestal - the camera sits on top of this unit. It means that such cameras cannot be pedded down as much as they would if they were atop a pedestal alone. Particularly when presenters are on sofas, it means that remote cameras often have to be as low as they'll go, but still tilted down to achieve an MCU, which is a bit harder to light and not as comfortable for the presenter. By raising the presenters, you can get a better single shot, and better eyelines generally.

I would expect a changed desk to allow more guests and also a second area for sport/biz/film 24 Wink

No - standard camera pedestals with remote pan/tilt heads on top don't go low enough for decent eyelines when chairs or sofas are just left on the floor.

I must say I do think the set looks better in TC7 as it comes across as being much warmer with the orange baking tray and a slightly more coloured background. I think the set also works well positioned on the baking tray as it generally looks better and also allows for some better close up shots.

On a different note did anyone see the Rubix Cube Robot on the programme today? It did look quite sinister and didn't want to work, apparently because the lights were too bright. A good laugh though!

Surprise surprise - a studio with a decent, higher, flexible lighting grid, and more space looks better on-screen than a much smaller studio with a much lower, and less flexible lighting grid...

I don't know actually - on the Ten the background lacks contrast and is lighter. The lighting is also a bit dim.

is it just me or does anyone else find Bill really really irritating? He comes across as a showoff who rather fancies himself

I beg to differ. I find Bill Turnbull's presentational style perfectly suited to Breakfast. He has a lighter side for the more jocular and entertainment oriented items, but can be authoritative and serious when required. He is also very professional and carries on regardless when the likes of Susanna Reid fluff their lines (or spill hot coffee over his foot).

I agree. I think Bill's an excellent presenter - very adaptable and a real pro. One of the best Breakfast has ever had.

According to the RT Sophie Long will be joining Charlie Stayt this weekend. Quite a rapid advancement, she's only recently arrived on News 24.
