I read someone a long time ago that the GMTV sofa was designed so that it was uncomfy so that people didn't lounge on them, in that respect I suppose plastic lit pieces resembling a sofa wouldn't be the worst thing.
Though with a plain light coloured sofa, couldn't it be lit anyway?

The sofa is going nowhere, apart from moving to TC7.
The only difference you will see Monday is the black floor (cause its in TC7), a new 'shared' desk - that will be used by Nationals, Working Lunch and Newsnight, and the fact that the Sofa will be on the Cam Right Dias instead of being on the floor Cam Left (as it was in N6).
And for the record - the Last TX from N6 is 2200 Sunday.
I memory serves they used someting to make the whole floor look grey during breakfasts 25th maybe they will use that. And these changes take place from monday?/there will be no sofa?

I doubt the loss of the sofa is permanent - just till the studios have finished their games of musical chairs.

It was just an extended baking tray as I recall.

Yes, it was, but that was only because the recreation of the "Breakfast Time" set couldn't fit onto one "baking tray". That won't be the case on Monday though, as the sofa will surely fit onto the right-hand one quite easily (as Newsnight's does).
Plenty of work coming up for the scenery staff in TC7 each day. Assuming that the One will simulcast from N8, then TC7 can produce everything that was previously done in both N6 and TC7.
This is surely one of the main benefits of the barco-cube set-up. A quick change of background, lighting, the sofa and a few odds and ends (carpet) and you have a different programme. I imagine the only set changes that take a great deal of time are for the Politics Show and Andrew Marr Show.

Are the Politics Show and Andrew Marr show sets both up at the same time? They use different sides of the studios, and just wondered. They often seem to have a guest sitting on a chair who is out of shot and in my mind it seems they could be sitting on a Politics show chair on the other side of the studio (the background behind them suggests this as well.
Also why is it with both these shows backgrounds the joins in the screens are far less noticeable. Is it just the colours of the background?

Yes "m_in_m", they are both in TC7 at the same time. They actually use more than half the studio each, so there is no doubt a little bit of scenery shifting done after 10am. I recall at Christmas Rory Bemner did a piece on the AM Show which came from the baking tray in the Politics Show half (you could only tell by the purple carpet, really).
No doubt previously the sets were dressed on Saturdays, and then re-done on Monday mornings for Working Lunch. But that will have to change now. After 1pm today they will have to be dressed for Breakfast (unless they come in very early tomorrow morning).
EDIT:
As for the screens, I agree they look far better balanced in TC7. It's often very difficult to see the joins, but as you say, perhaps it's the choice of image.
