wh... what? The sofa's going? Oh no!

I'd be surprised if it did go because it has been a part of Breakfast since 2002 IIRC saying that I'm surprised that the move was mentioned at all. I'd have thought they would simply move the sofa into TC7 with same backdrop, titles etc. and the majority of people wouldn't notice the difference. Obviously with all this talk something bigger is happening, which is surely going to cost more money instead of actually cutting costs.

I hope this time we get something in the same legue as the 2000 set.

I am expecting to see the exact same backdrop, and sofa, at least until the whole re-brand goes into force...

They seemed to be saving on Friday that they'd miss the sofa!

I doubt the loss of the sofa is permanent - just till the studios have finished their games of musical chairs.

The sofa is going nowhere, apart from moving to TC7.
The only difference you will see Monday is the black floor (cause its in TC7), a new 'shared' desk - that will be used by Nationals, Working Lunch and Newsnight, and the fact that the Sofa will be on the Cam Right Dias instead of being on the floor Cam Left (as it was in N6).

And for the record - the Last TX from N6 is 2200 Sunday.

So will the sofa remain in TC7 for all programmes, or just be wheeled in for Breakfast?

Well it would look pretty ridiculous sitting there during the One, Six or Ten, in front of presenters reporting from the screens, or the weather presenter trying to do the weather with this great big red thing in the way. Or during Newsnight when the whole of the backdrop is purple and blue, and there's a big red sofa in the corner. I doubt it.

But Newsnight have a sofa which is similar but in purple, and working lunch which is the next programme after breakfast presumbly in the studio have a sofa too! (although in blue and of a different style!) but surley the easiest thing would be to have one sofa which Breakfast / Working Lunch / Newsnight can all use (maybe with different covers to give the different programmes there own feel) and then just move it out of the studio for the 6 and 10!

Would it not be just as quick to change the sofa. Changing covers on it is going to probably take just as long - it has to look tidy.

But you're then talking about having to move the sofas in and out during the course of the day, and removing and replacing covers for red, blue and purple chairs each time the sofas are moved. That doesn't happen by magic - that requires people, and people cost money, which is what they're trying to save right now.

No aspect of your suggestion can rightly be labelled as "the easiest thing".
