Out of interest, when Dermot leaves Breakfast would anyone like to see anyone other than Bill, Charlie or Simon appear, either during the week or at the weekend, maybe even someone who's outside the BBC at the moment. I think Nicholas Owen and Tim Willcox would both be quite good at the weekend and I was impressed with Matt Barbett when he covered a while back, but since he only just left for Five I don't think there's a chance of a return.
Can I ask, before N6, what studio did Breakfast come from? I seem to remember TOTH news bulletins were made to look like they were coming from News 24 studio of the time complete with '24' in Ivory behind the news reader and newsroom screens. Was Breakfast really coming from there or was it a simulation newsroom behind the newsreader?

Between 1997 and 2006, Breakfast came from TC7. The era to which you are referring was around 2000-2002, IIRC. The newsreader appeared to be in N24's studio, as you correctly stated, however that was not the case. The newsreader (Moira Stuart, Asad Ahmed, etc.) was in fact just a few feet from the main presenters and it was all done by CSO.
EDIT: In fact, here is an image of the original Breakfast (2000) set. If you look to the very bottom right of the image, you can just see the newsreader's desk:

Colin Brazier, perhaps? Not because of Breakfast, but it may be a way into the nationals (though that was said for Dermot...)
Though Colin would be good on Breakfast and I can see him working well with Sian! Otherwise perhaps Ben Geogan ( ) or Jon Sopel?
It's unbelievable how awful that looks. What's with all the silly spotlights? Looks like a cross between a fairground ride and (as I believe has been said before) like a East European dentist waiting room.
Surprisingly, it came across quite well onscreen. It was warm, cosy and welcoming, which is especially important on a cold, dark winter morning. Compare that to the 2003 and 2006 sets which felt rather cold.

Does anyone actually know what an east european dentist's waiting room actually looks like. I mean come on, I don't really see the resemblance myself

Rubbish. That was the best look Breakfast has ever had. Far better than the modified version with a split sofa and plant pots they adopted around the time of Dermot's arrival. Clean, professional, the plants behind the window made it warmer and it was a great take on the corporate look.
Add to that it had the three distinct presentation areas plus the news desk. Extremely versatile and the fact they had two excellent presenters at the time as well as a very good news/feature balance made it pretty much perfect in my eyes.
