It makes the studio look bigger i think .
But some how people think it looks to cold Rolling Eyes

I loved that background, much more nicer and fresh. Great to wake up in the morning, I agree the set looks so much bigger than it actually is! I wish people didn't say it looked cold - because thats why the Beeb changed it to what it is now.

Indeed, I would argue that that screen shot makes the studio look quite warm and welcoming. The blue skies with white fluffy clouds makes it feel like a warm summer day. It was far better than what they use as a backdrop now.

I hope the BBC change it soon, the backdrop has become boring. I wish they used some of the cloud images they had photographed specialy, remember they only used the 'blue cloud'... never the other variations.

Was the idea that the clouds change througout the show? If it was, great idea, innovative, bring it back I say!

Here is my feeble attempt to create a good backdrop for Breakfast. I did it in paint, as I'm not at my computer with Photoshop, so please excuse the sloppiness.

Really? I thought that's the reason they dropped that particular backdrop, because it is far too ''cold-looking'' for that time of day?

That's actually really good. However, Breakfast is a national program and so it wouldn't be a very fair representation.

So, what about the backdrop on the One, Six and Ten?

I really like that but I agree that it is abit to London Centered

My idea is to like have like a sky backdrop at one side of the studio and something else on the other. And break it in the middle with the BBC BREAKFAST logo.

I think that would look great having a window view over London. It would give the programme a different feel to it. Breakfast has always kept with the corporate BBC News look since it begun in 2000.

If they had this new look they should have different opening titles and graphics. Make it seperate from BBC News like GMTV is seperate from ITV1? Just a thought?

Until 2006 when Breakfast moved into N6 they had their own set and graphics. They certainly didn't adopt the BBC News corporate look during that time Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Breakfast already have their own titles, which are vastly different from BBC News. GMTV look different from ITV1 (I presume you mean ITV News) because they are made by seperate companies, in different locations for different purposes.

Couldnt the BBC with all their technical expertise create a background similair to semaus' but using famous buildings from around the country, rather than just London, to create some form of convincing Supercity? If not they could just go to Legoland Windsor and rearrange a few things and take a picture.

I don't see the problem with having a London skyline backdrop on BBC News. Let's face it, the programme is broadcast from London - everyone knows that - so why try to hide it by having a backdrop of another city, or a mixture of cities? I think this country is going overboard on political correctness, which is one of the reasons I think it is going to the dogs, but that discussion's for another time. If BBC News was broadcast from Liverpool, then I'd expect to see a Liverpool skyline behind the presenters. What concerns me more is the London-centric agendas on news bulletins - not the backdrop.

When the national news begins with two stories about stabbings and shootings in London, with a London skyline, you start to wonder if you are watching BBC London. News is bound to be capital centred, we all know that, but every effort should be taken to avoid this, in my opinion. I would have no problem with a window overlooking London but graphics seem wrong.

Another potential problem with graphics of cities, which I wonder if it has been considered, is if a recognisable building or place in the background were to feature in a story - e.g a fire or, god forbid, a terrorist incident, there is huge pie-in-face potential. Its the kind of thing that could be overlooked by production staff. Imagine a story on smog shrowding London with zero visibility being introduced on the 1 or 6 with the lovely perfectly clear skyline, it would be farcical.

I think the problem was with the close-ups. It was just totally blue behind the presenters and looked weird, especially when the clashing red sofa was visable

The close-ups were indeed one problem, but I think the most significant aspect of that was not the flat blue background, but rather the appalling joins between the screen panels, where some adjacent panels differed significantly in contrast and brightness.

It's visible enough on the above wide shot; it looked terrible close-up.
