I had to laugh at Susannah Reid this morning after she managed to spill Bill Turnbull's coffee. He carried on reading the headlines, regardless of having a warm and damp left foot........but Ms Reid decided to interrupt and apologise Laughing Laughing

You've got to laugh at the way Bill reacted to Susanna's apology - what a pro. She tries to apologise, and he just waves it off before carrying on as before!

I don't know the ins and outs of BBC News operations, but why can't Breakfast come from its main studio at the weekends? Or even where they do the main BBC One bullitens from.

I think Breakfast comes from News 24 set because its cheaper to do, rather than set up another studio and gallery, and BBC One News and Breakfast come from the same studio. (Please do feel free to correct me if I am wrong with this answer).

No, that's exactly the case.

Traditionally, there used to be Weekend 24 - Broadcast on N24 and BBC 1 (and occassionally 2). That pretty much died away with Breakfast becoming a 7 day operation.

It makes sense to only staff the News 24 gallery for such a programme if it's being simularcast. The Midday News update is handled in exactly the same way - coming from the N24 set rather than having to staff N6 (as well as allowing for SportRound to be broadcast).

Sorry but thats not true. If the Editor of Breakfast had his way it would indeed come from N6 7 days a week, its nothing to do with what traditionally happened.

Its all down to cost becuse at the weekends it means bringing in an extra crew at 0400.

That means you would have to use TWO full crews at the weekend - and at the moment they get away with one 12 Hour crewing shift- and no camerapeople. (Sportsround provide their own cameraperson)

Also for interest Breakfast and the Six are the only N6 programmes that use 2 Camerapeople, the rest use 1.

It makes a change to actually have camera operators these days. Quite a lot are controlled from the gallery, yet I don't think this allows the full flexibility of the cameras and are seldom used to get nice and different angles.

I'd be interested to find out how many camerapeople Channel 4 use.

The BBC only intorduced them for the news bulletins last year when they had the new set, before that all the cameras were remote controlled. I am not sure about breakfast however, i think they have always had manned cameras.

Interesting little teeny mishap at 7 this morning.

We had a moment or two of going round the studio on the big camera and Sian apologised for the loss of music - even though there wasn't supposed to be any.

Could thy not have just played out a trail? They've started at .01 before.

They do seem inconsistant on the way they use the set....sometimes they start at the desk, other times they ditch the desk and stay sofa bound. That was always the problem with Breakfast News back in the late '90s...albeit they always started at the desk, but then one minute they'd be at their awful salmon pink sofa section, then the next back at the desk...at least in the early days of Breakfast it was much more consistent in the way they used the set...

In reality that set, just doesnt suit the current format of Breakfast...it almost seems that they use the desk just cause its there...and they cant move it out.

Why don't they have the desk for the first half hour, sofa in the next, at least it would be more logical.

They usually do - as this is the more newsy hour and less interviews happen.

Was interesting this morning with the technical problems, I was just waking up.

Yeah the camera was slowly moving/zooming into the set and Sian said to Dermot, "I'm not ready at all.." then Dermot says back: "This is not normally what we do" and "this isn't right" lol.

Then they moved to one of the journalists and she said "Good morning" and forgot or seemed like she didnt know she had to continue speaking.. then as soon as they went into the report the sound was lost and cut the report.. I'm sure that messed up the timing of the program due to the hitches in the first 5 minutes.

It was so nice to see the old team of Bill Turnbull & Sian Williams together again on Breakfast. They clearly get on well with each other. Sian seems alot more relaxed than when she is presenting with Dermot, and she seems to bring out the best in Bill's humour too!

Wasn't that the 7 toth though? Wouldn't they come back from the regions, have some headlines then the titles, as Sian says "This isn't what we normally do"
