The sooner television broadcasters realise that people increasingly dislike being dictated to by scheduling the better.

I long for the day when all BBC One is just a digital menu and you can select the programme you'd like to view at your own leisure. Imagine being able to turn on BBC One at 7am and have the choice of news, sports, documentaries or even a good old episode of Blackadder to brighten your mood before you head off to work.

Programmes on demand. That's the future.

While I don't want to start a discussion about this - as it's not the place, being the Breakfast thread - I agree it'll happen, and that it has it's benefits, but one thing it'd lack would be going into work the next day and saying, "Did you watch THAT last night!?" Before all this choice and before DVDs and computer games TV used to be an event that the whole nation shared. This made for a much better TV experience.

EDIT: Started a new thread to discuss this: http://www.tvforum.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?p=385277

Going back a few pages to Kate Silverton's choice of blouse, I am reminded of a sketch with Julia Walters from Victoria Wood's As Seen On TV

JW: Did you see the news last night?

VW: The 9 o'clock?

JW: Nasty blouse.

VW: We stayed up for News At Ten. Three bangles and polo neck, thank you.

JW: No! Her ears are in the wrong place for a polo neck!

VW: You have to be royalty really.

JW: Well they've the length of bone!

Dermot's style is more suited to the 10 than Breakfast I think. Give the Breakfast job to Bill!

Yes Dermot i much more Tennish. He's a proper newsreader in the "booming voice dominating the screen" style.

Bill and Sian have been fabg on breakfast all week so far. I loved them bickering over the strawberries yesterday.

I have to agree. Dermot is wasted on Breakfast, as was Natasha IMO. At least Natasha has moved to a bulletin she is more suited to.

If I'm not mistaken, wasn't that in the Family Planning sketch?

Getting back on to the subject of Breakfast, I prefer the old blue background!

I finally saw the new background for Breakfast on Wednesday and think it's better. I wish they could be innovative enough to change the colour during the course of the programme from dark to lighter red/orange. It can't be that difficult! Confused Shocked

I don't think the new background animates at all.
