Thanks for the response. I appreciate that the various brands are supposed to look different. The reason I lump Breakfast in with the others is that to my eyes it has a similar "budget" look, as you put it.

Before your first post above I'd assumed that later versions of these titles were made in-house in an attempt to replicate the LN titles, as they give the impression that the creator was missing the original templates or whatever (I don't know much about graphic design but I think you get the gist of what I'm trying to say).

Is there a reason why the later versions (BBC Breakfast, BBC Farsi, BBC Arabic, BBC Alba) look absolutely crap compared with the originals (World, News channel, BBC1, nations and regions)? They look like they've been made by a completely different person.

Breakfast in particular looks a botched job. It's as if the opening of the title sequence was produced before the April 2008 changes and then clumsily amended to shoehorn a BBC News endboard onto the end. The 'BBC Breakfast' text is displayed in a darker shade of grey than usual too.

The Breakfast Titles look like they were produced internally, and not by Lambie-Nairn. It doesn't follow the same format, of different cuts and the formup looks poor and sloppy.

Haven't got much to add really apart from it's a real shame to see a slick piece of presentation being dumped after such a short time. A great piece of work from the internal graphics team.

Like the '97 flags, it's gone but not forgotten!

Why on earth didn't they use the Persian Countdown music and sting??

They seem to love the old graphics so much that they don't want to let them go!

Because the David Lowe BBC News music is part of the BBC News brand I guess - it isn't just about graphics and colour schemes. The previous Arabic music was from a different composer and part of a different brand.

I think it was a great branding package - but mixing and matching between brands isn't a good idea. The BBC News brand - including David Lowe's music - is a very strong branding device internationally - and David also does the music brands for BBC World Service Radio I believe - so it makes sense.

Yep - BBC Persian/Farsi launched within the BBC News brand (including a David Lowe music mix) - Arabic launched before it had been rolled out.

Yeah I know... which brings me back to my original question - why didn't they do this relaunch of Arabic with the Persian music, instead of just the standard BBC News stuff?

I bet all my life that Angus McKeown, who designed the previous look, will do the BBC News' next corporate revamp.
