So that's it then? The best piece of branding BBC News came up with in recent times is dead? For shame.

I hope that backdrop is the newswall - they better not have covered up the newsroom! The new font on the ticker is HUGE and the numbers show up in Times New Roman, not Gill Sans. I don't see why they need the clock either.

I preferred the old style. The music was great as were the titles. The BBC News branding is quite boring IMO.

Out of the main 3 channels (Al Jazeera, Al Arabiya & BBC Arabic) I would say Al Arabiya still have the best presentation and studio. Also worth noting the new BBC Arabic straps are very similar to Al Jazeera's (I think they copied from the BBC actually!)

Well, it's a shame to see such an aesthetic, unique branding, to be replaced by the blanket, bland BBC branding. No more great music and excellent graphics. Now David Lowe, Lambie-Nairn generic music and graphics.

A real pity to see it go.

I like the slight variation to the David Lowe countdown. The titles use the National theme as well. Horrible studio!!! Newswall, little desk and that's it.

What were you thinking, BBC?

Sad to see a very well executed brand gone... I can see the logic behind the pan-BBC News branding - and David Lowe's music is a very strong branding device (though I loved the Arabic package)

I just wish the Lambie Nairn design was a bit stronger and less bland, and the titles were a bit more interesting and didn't look so flat and cheap.

Not the BBC Arabic team's fault - and they have done a good job with what they have to work with by the look of it.

Otherwise known as the old BBC World countdown. Things seem a bit recycled to me - the bed I heard earlier on sounds just like the Persian one. Same with the title music, too. Poor effort.

They played a slightly different version of the countdown on the BBC Arabic Radio station last night BTW. I get your point though - National titles, Persian bed. A real mish-mash of different cuts.

IIRC the branding was designed by the World Service and not BBC News... hence why it was different

Not quite.

The BBC Arabic division of the BBC World Service commissioned the original BBC Arabic TV branding graphics from a BBC News in-house team of designers. (I think the same designers did the current Newsnight brand)

Ironically the current BBC non-English language Global News brand (as used by BBC Persian/Farsi, BBC Turkish etc.) - that Arabic have just rolled out and is used elsewhere - was NOT created in-house, but was commissioned from Lambie-Nairn at the same time as the very similar BBC English language Global and Domestic News brand (as used by BBC World News and BBC One/BBC News channel)

So Arabic had a brand created by BBC News designers, and BBC News has a brand NOT created by BBC News designers... Now they all have a brand NOT created by BBC News designers. Confusing I know...

Is there a reason why the later versions (BBC Breakfast, BBC Farsi, BBC Arabic, BBC Alba) look absolutely crap compared with the originals (World, News channel, BBC1, nations and regions)? They look like they've been made by a completely different person.

There are two distinct sub-brands AIUI - one for English-language services and one for non-English language stuff.

I suspect you don't like the non-English language sub-brand? It doesn't do much for me either - and looks a little on the 'budget' side - though I'm sure it wasn't cheap...

Breakfast is the odd one out on your list - but I think that has been granted a bit more latitude to move away from the core English-language brand as it has a wider role on BBC One than just news, with the 0830-0915 slot being a less newsy, more featurey show which would look distinctly odd decked out in the core BBC News English language brand (far too hard news, not soft and fluffy enough etc.)

The English regions is sort of a separate brand - with links to the core English language News branding - particularly in set terms - but with some latitude to make the titles more region-specific.
