Considering that it's the same Lambie Nairn who generated the 1999 look then I'd think it would be best to wait to see what they have planned on screen before judging it, be it grey/white/silver/red or otherwise.

And in conflict of what I've just said, so far I'm frankly not *that* stunningly impressed with either the music or visual look for BBC Arabic, that's based on the small snippets that have been shown so far, but of course I'll reserve thoughts until I see the full look.

Strap design on that video is amazing though, I'll give them that for sure.

The straps remind me of the BBC News Updates throughout the morning, with much more of a glassy effect. Very nice indeed.

I can't wait to hear the music and see the titles. The set looks great, I can see BBC World having something like it when they move into News 24's set..

interesting to note they're plugging that you can find it on hotbird in the UK. I presume this is due to it being funded by the FCO rather than BBCWW like BBC World.

The graphics look really good - I wondered how long it would be before Web 2.0 graphics were deemed good enough to be used on TV. The glass effect and spinning BBC blocks look superb. Hopefully we'll get a lot of good clips tomorrow, anyone hooked up to Hotbird?!

Yes - and as it doesn't carry commercials it can be promoted for reception in the UK. Apparently it may be carried on cable.

Don't forget that BBC Arabic is NOT being made by BBC News (i.e. the people who make BBC One bulletins, News 24 and provide BBC World with news content) it is being produced by BBC World Service - and is surprisingly distant in branding terms.

AIUI the music is not David Lowe - but I would expect BBC News stuff to remain with David.

The graphic look was actually created by BBC News graphics (who pitched against commercial companies) - whereas the new BBC News look is being done by Lambie Nairn.

I think the current David Lowe music is pretty integral to the current BBC News brand - as much as the colour red to be honest. I'd be surprised if they veered that far away from the current music - which is well regarded in the Beeb.

I suspect that the full music probably has a bit too much of a "Middle Eastern" feel about it to be rolled out domestically... (Imagine a Middle Eastern Eurovision song entry...)

Without going into the structure of the BBC too deeply, BBC World is closer to the World Service (and therefore the Arabic Service) divisionally than it is to News 24. So you might expect facilites and resources to be shared, this hardly happens at the moment - but this should change in the run up to BBC News and Global News moving in to the new Broadcasting House.

Even when this time comes, I'll still be surprised if there is a redical departure by World from the News 24 look given the current situation.
