Sounds like 60 Seconds is rather cost effective in its resourcing.

Yes - and so are the BBC One Daytime summaries these days as well...

I can't imagine they will not use BBC News Reporters, BBC News Bureaus, BBC News Camera Crews etc.

While it may not be run by BBC News, it will undoubtedly make use of BBC News resources, as it would be more cost effective, in these days of BBC cutbacks etc

I thought all of the above came under the mega-subdivision of BBC Journalism now anyway? (With 'BBC News' being inclusive)

They do - just as BBC Sport and BBC Nations and Regions do. This is a management - and to some degree high-level editorial - arrangement, it doesn't mean they are all one big lump, the daughter departments still retain their own structures, and for practical reasons their own separate resourcing operations.

I assumed the English speaking reporters may still be used on occasions, but dubbed by Arabic speakers.

Will this channel be transmitting from TVC, or another UK based studio? Also will there be any link between BBC Arabic, and BBC World when transmitted in Arabic nations? Like Arabic language dubs or editions of Reporters and Click etc and BBC News Arabic bulletins, like BBC America gets BBC News bulletins?

Possible in some circumstances - but I would expect live interpreters to be used mainly for guests who are not fluent in Arabic.

As has been mentioned earlier in the thread - the BBC Arabic TV service is based at Egton House, where it is likely that the BBC Persian/Farsi service will also be sited.

I have no idea what the non-News programming on BBC Arabic will be - but I think most of it is original programming rather than dubbed versions of English content. After all - AJE don't broadcast many long-form programmes originated in Arabic dubbed into English.

They have done a few actually - although this only tends to happen during big stories or when a big interview is available. Consequently these are often branded under 'Aljazeera Exclusive' rather than 'Aljazeera English Exclusive'.

A recent example was the live interview with the Iranian President (I really can't spell his name) and this was dubbed from Farsi into English - I assume that Aljaz Arabic also had a similar set up for it's arabic viewers.

It will be interesting to see what content they can come up with - what exactly is the remit of the channel. Is it supposed to be BBC World in Arabic with absolutely no connection to BBC World or something else?

Yep - I said they didn't do many, not any!

They would obviously broadcast their major scoops on both platforms irrespective of the original language - understandably so.

If BBC World got an interview with George W Bush they would probably live interpret to Arabic...

Yep - would expect so. As would the BBC I expect - that is a major scoop.

My point was that "Reporters" or "This Week" may not be routinely dubbed and broadcast.

It is certainly not BBC World in Arabic - it is entirely independent and separate from that channel. It is run by the BBC World Service Arabic service - effectively a TV offshoot of their existing radio and web operation. Editorially I would expect it to be closely aligned to the BBC World Service Arabic language service - and thus the wider BBC World Service Radio operation.

(The BBC DID run a BBC World Arabic language service in the mid-90s, which was funded by and carried on the Saudi owned Orbit TV platform - but this ceased when there were issues of editorial independence. A LARGE number of the journalists employed on this channel in London moved to Doha and helped launch Al Jazeera...)

Has BBC Arabic started then?, last time I watched it was just BBC Arabic Radio with some fancy background, the BBC logo and Arabic text probably telling viewers when its meant to be launching.

Entirely coincidental if they are - and I don't know that they are. I certainly wouldn't read anything in to this.
