BBC 3 seems a bit trial and error at the moment. IMO , BBC 3 News was working, it had an exciting, up beat and modern feel to it, until they unleashed thoes awfuly cheap sofas..... Rolling Eyes

Yes, I used to really enjoy it until they changed the format to the sofa-based setup. After that I rarely bothered to tune in.

Out of interest, did viewing figures improve at all when the format was changed?

They sounded quite sad when they announced they were being axed. Hope paddy gets a regular slot somewhere..

I feel sorry for Paddy, this is a hatrick for him now, 3 BBC Three programmes he has fronted have now been axed ( Liquid News, Celebdaq and The Seven O'Clock News )

I hope he turns up elsewhere on the BBC, he is a great presenter.

He's not exactly short of work, he's a fill-in presenter on Working Lunch, on LBC radio and on Radio 4's PM (under the name Patrick O'Connel) .

He really does deserve a regular gig though

Completly agree it was one of BBC3's best kept secrets until the sofas came in!

I hope the idea of showing what other broadcasters around the world are covering is adopted somewhere else, perhaps on The World.

I also wonder if The World might move now to an earlier slot!

If that's the case, come on EastEnders - sign him up quickly!

Yes - in general the audiences increased.

However the audience for the channel has also been increasing (as more and more people get Freeview boxes, and Sky/Cable, the potential audience grows, and also the show is becoming more "known"), the presenter line-up changed, and the audiences are still at the low-end of the Barb reliability level most nights, so it is difficult to get a clear picture.

However it often (usually?) gets higher ratings than the news channels at the same time, and usually outrates The World. It is too early to compare it to More4 News I guess.

When BBC Three News was on at 2030 it had a significantly larger audience, and on most nights didn't lose much inheritance (More4 News has been losing significant amounts of inheritance)

Those "awfully cheap" sofas were actually quite expensive (though second hand) sofas with blue fabric covers on.

As has been mentioned on the show on a number of occasions - including last night - (and demonstrated by at least one guest) - they were the channel controller's (and are lime green leather underneath)

This is definitely a mistake. The BBC Three News team are a superb and talented group of journalists. The majority of the stories had a quirky element and it made the news so much more refreshing. It suited the channel so well. It's a real shame.

Indeed its a shame but at the end of the day doesn't it all boil down to £...
