BBC World News broke into an interesting programme about Star Wars toys. I wasn’t watching BBC News, but they were on a programme about people who have died this year. Matthew Amroliwala seems to have interrupted both.

The Review programme they interrupted on the NC looked particularly shoddy I thought - it was one of their Review 2020 shows but compared to previous years it didn't have a presenter or anything. As such, it consisted of footage of celebrities who have passed this year and a caption underneath explaining who they were and why they were famous. It's the kind of thing that they can get away with for a few minutes when reusing a video made for social media on screen (although even that I always think doesn't look great), but stretching it out for half an hour is quite something. Very low production values, to the extent it wouldn't have looked out of place on Local TV...!

The obituary show has had this format for the past several years and as you say it always seems poor quality.

Based on your description and looking at the guide on iPlayer, you were watching the 'We Remember' episode. Whilst most episodes in the Review series have presenters, I seem to recall that they're typically absent from the 'in memoriam' editions.

Yes from my memory of previous years. The "We Remember" programming strand as part of the 'Review of 0000' is always without a presenter and lets the words and pictures speak for themselves. Personally, I like that they have always done this slot presenterless as it is a more sombre thing.
BBI45 and SuperSajuuk gave kudos

I think it's better without a presenter, let the pictures and quote speak for themself, get through more people without a pointless introduction and summary

Well it is a bit better than using letters as a placeholder and I don't like doing random number for things.
