You can check Genome/Programmes yourself to see what was scheduled on Christmas and/or Boxing Day every year on BBC One/BBC TV going back a far as you like (in fact when it became BBC One in 1964 the first Christmas Day for BBC One only has two news bulletins - one that lasted for 5 minutes and then another for ten minutes later that night).

In 1992, there was no news on either BBC1 or ITV before 5pm.
Filler nonsense on in the middle of the afternoon on a working day with major developing news. They manage better than this when everyone is on strike.
So the only original NC output now is 9 -10am, 12-1pm, 1:30-2pm, 4-6pm and 6:30-7pm?
I won't be at all surprised to see a 24 hour World & NC simulcast starting 7pm on Wednesday (excluding Breakfast), running through until next Monday or Tuesday.
Back to E and the news channel at 4pm I wonder if they were planning to simulcast and had to go back because of the press briefing or if there was a problem in E that got fixed.
We had head over the weekend that they were going to review how they operate to reduce staff being in NBH. Additional simulcasting seems the most likely answer than an issue with E.
