I watched a bit of ITN news around 1:40, as opposed to the back to back telephone interviews on the other channels, they had an in studio discussion between Kelvin MacKenzie and Ann Widdecombe - an amazing achievement to organise and pull that off in that timescale I thought. For me , that was the best bit of the breaking coverage.
Her outfit was a little ruffled I thought - top button undone. I get the feeling she'd had to change outfit in a real hurry. I wonder how close their dressing rooms are to the studio? I think it broke at 12:45 - 12:50 didn't it? Far easy for the guys in these situations - just pull a black tie out of the drawer.
News broke on the News Channel at 12.48, you can still watch it on iPlayer restart. Joanna Gosling and Chris Eakin broke the News, neither of whom reappeared at 1.30.
Just watching this now - you hear Christ just freezing while reading the headlines as he is told the news. It then goes to the coming up strap and clearly he wants to stop reading, obviously knowing that it isn't going to happen. He looks quite shocked. People literally running in the newsroom behind.
You can imagine shouting in his ear 'JUST CARRY ON!!!'.
The headline bed was playing, he started reading the North Korea story then 'Right........ we're just getting news.....' then a pause, then he carried on. That would of been really bad if he actually said the news over a headline bed with pictures of North Korea. He didn't want to wait those few seconds at all. But its certainly best that they did, it was only a very few seconds, then break it in a proper manner.
That looks more like nerves rather then upset from Sian, the news breaking so close to the 1 she probably had no clue how her next hour was oing to pan out.

Having missed it initially, it seemed like Chris and Joanna had the news before producers were prepared to run with it. At 12:47 Chris hesitated a couple of times during the headlines, but they did then complete the headlines including the markets, before Joanna broke the news. Seemed strange, if they did already have the news from the PA, to include the markets and a 'coming up' story they were clearly then not going to actually feature.
Where did Chris and Joanna go just before 1pm? Chris was speaking right up until the moment Sian came on screen, as there was no countdown or anything between the News at 1 and the 12pm newshour.
