Sian coming across seemingly upset by the news.

Her outfit was a little ruffled I thought - top button undone. I get the feeling she'd had to change outfit in a real hurry. I wonder how close their dressing rooms are to the studio? I think it broke at 12:45 - 12:50 didn't it? Far easier for the guys in these situations - just pull a black tie out of the drawer.

You know I thought that too - didn't know if it was too much barking in her ear or genuine emotion.

I just thought nervous, suddenly her throat sounded dry, and she had to ad-lib through part of the headlines, which, whilst announcing the death of Margaret Thatcher on BBC1, I think would make anyone's voice crack slightly.

Oh and as for Robinson's obit - Thatcher would have had obits ready for broadcast for the past thirty years. As has most public figures.

Do the BBC have obits ready for current politicians one wouldn't expect to die any time soon? For example, you wouldn't expect David Cameron or Ed Miliband to pass on, where as someone like Margaret Thatcher has been suffering from health problems for a long time and was clearly getting older. I'd imagine it's far harder to put together a decent obit and provide breaking news coverage for someone like Cameron, especially given the knock-on ramifications of such a death. Would they/ did they have an obit ready for Thatcher before the Brighton bombing, for example?

I think the convention is to prepare obits for people nearing the end of their life. Often these include interviews with colleagues even, who talk in the past tense about their legacy.

News broke on the News Channel at 12.48, you can still watch it on iPlayer restart. Joanna Gosling and Chris Eakin broke the News, neither of whom reappeared at 1.30.

Interesting to see the Newsroom during the 1pm titles. It certainly seemed a lot more active, with everyone milling around working, which was quite a nice thing for BBC News to have, and you could see people on the floor above the newsroom stopped watching screens.

Imagine if this has happened at the same time on Monday three weeks ago....!

Probably the worse nightmare of those planning the move from TVC to NBH.

could not agree with u more...a disaster possibly...

I'm a bit surprised BBC1 has returned to scheduled programming so soon. I know the NC is now universally available but would have thought for a story of this significance, coverage would continue on BBC1.

No - don't think it would have been a disaster. They'd been rehearsing for a good couple of months before the launch date and I'm also sure they will have had some sort of plan in place if there was a major breaking news story in the couple of hours before the switchover.

Just watching this now - you hear Chris just freezing while reading the headlines as he is told the news. It then goes to the coming up strap and clearly he wants to stop reading, obviously knowing that it isn't going to happen. He looks quite shocked. People literally running in the newsroom behind.
