I need to correct my previous posts here. It appears that This Morning will air as normal, but there will be frequent bulletins from Alastair Stewart at ITN, and they will also cross to ITN at critical junctures of the proceedings, again anchored by Alastair.

So, perhaps not the type of format we (I) initially suspected.

Seems a bit odd, really. Either cover it in full or report it on the news later - it seems a but odd to be dipping in and out of it.

That still makes no sense to me.

Why on earth, whether you're pro Thatcher or against Thatcher, would you watch a light daytime magazine show with frequent inserts of the Funeral?

I presume ITV would be allowed to broadcast the whole service like they did with Diana and the Queen Mother? So why don't they or not at all.

So having already moved Question Time from an area that wouldn't be too sombre about her passing to her constituency the BBC have now opted not to play Ding Dong the Witch is Dead in the chart on Sunday, ignoring a large swathe of public opinion. However it's currently at number three in the charts and the BBC stating today they won't play it has pushed the story front and centre, so wouldn't be surprised if it helps bump it a couple of places higher.

Indeed it is beyond stupid. Do one or the other. It's quite simple.

Brekkie - I'm really starting to get annoyed at your disrespectful attitude which you have shown since the start. Personally I think the BBC have made completely the right decision. Yes, the publicity may well help it move further up the chart, but they just couldn't play it. Doing a news insert is a good call.

I fully agree with you both. ITV appear to be even less decisive than BBC are over the airing of The Witch is Dead song on radio.

Or are they merely preserving the preferences of both the pro and anti Thatcher camps?

Either way, it's bizarre.

I don't agree, nor is it keeping in right of freedom not to hide anything away. BBC has got it wrong on this, the song should be played in full.

Fact of the matter this is even up for discussion is the problem, radio one could have said until he chart is sorted, it could have went under the radar.

Completely agree - and I think looking at the bigger picture they need to broadcast it to not damage the reputation of ITV News further, even if they are on a hiding to nothing.

Anyone know where the BBC are going to put their studio? Presumably as close to St Paul's as possible so they can get guests, but was wondering if Tate Modern was a possibility (perhaps for anchoring the news channel?) if you can get high up enough, given the sight lines over the Millennium bridge…

Apparently overlooking St Paul's Cathedral but doesn't say where.

Ta. I'm sure they planned it all ages ago, but it seems like it might be tricky to build or lift a studio on top of the existing buildings (ala the roof of Methodist Central Hall that overlooks Westminister Abbey) given that those by the Great West Door are all rather high (plus trees block much of the view from the north west corner).
