Seriously, ITV always get it wrong... NOT NEWS, but the 'idiots' that decide when to approve 'news reports'. Their primary concern is advertisers and junctions. Loose Women should never have broken such news, a simple throw to News for 'Breaking News' would have sufficed. Loose Women is live - so what's the issue?

ITV News do extremely well with events such as this, as proven yesterday, and it has to be said 'do very well' at times of 'major breaking news', alas - they are rarely given enough airtime these days to demonstrate such.

It is you who has got it wrong, you aren't reading the posts properly.

Loose Women discussed the news in the part after the ITV News Report.

Bit odd to start with the photo and the '1925 - 2013' text.

I assumed that was added to the front by whoever uploaded the video, difficult to tell as the cue dot is on throughout

That is what they did!

On a slightly separate note I understand there is a possibility ITV will not carry next week’s ceremonial funeral live. Watch this space …

Given the poor/average ratings for yesterday's specials and bulletins, I wouldn't be shocked tbh.

She was infinitely more significant to the world than any British monarch.

*ahem*

You really don't think there will be wall-to-wall coverage and suspension of schedules when the Queen eventually dies?

This will look like nothing compared to that.

We were talking about BBC WN. To the international viewer , Thatcher was infinitely more important -- she changed the face of the late 20th century, while the Queen is a ceremonial figurehead who hasn't really affected anything. (But yes, she will still get plenty of coverage as a reigning monarch and a celebrity, which is essentially what she is.)

In Tony Judt's authoritative history of postwar Europe, Thatcher is discussed on 43 pages. The Queen, who has ruled for a far longer time, is mentioned on five (and even then briefly, in the context of such topics as the first televised coronation).

As The Queen is Head of State in 16 Commonwealth countries and head of the Commonwealth (53 countries), as well as an extremely long-reigning monarch. I think you'll find coverage of her death will be of quite a lot of relevance to the international viewer.

So I'm guessing Huw Edwards and Nick Robinson will be covering the funeral next week? Or will Dimbleby get this one?

But she is a purely ceremonial figure. You can't compare her historic significance to that of Thatcher, who changed the face not just of the UK but world affairs in general. Yes, the Queen's death will receive a lot of coverage, but that will essentially be because of her celebrity (jubilee celebrations, anyone?), not because of her historic significance. (After all, she never had any political power.)

Also, the Queen is rather bland ("insupportably boring," as Bill Bryson described the royals), while Thatcher was an inherently interesting -- and polarizing -- political personality.

Her lack of political power and ceremonial role doesn't mean she's not relevant (and of course many people abroad - and some in this country don't realise her status or role)

Her lack of power doesn't mean that she's not of historical importance, nor that she has had no influence over the events of the last 60 years. I've always liked this photo as a demonstration of her place in history

The big difference between Thatcher and the Queen is the longevity. The Queen is all that anyone under retirement age remembers also of course she will probably pass away in office whereas Thatcher had been out of the public eye for over 20 years

I uploaded the video, and that was how the newsflash started, no editing on my part.

David, the newsflash started at the beginning of the commercial break.

Daily Politics on BBC2 tomorrow at 1410 for the recall of parliament

A real pointless exercise.

Because you didn't like her?

No, because what's the point of parliament discussing what's essentially history ?
