Bit odd to start with the photo and the '1925 - 2013' text. The news had already been reported by that caption before the opening titles had even appeared. Where did this appear? It was during Loose Women, right? Was it at the start of the break before adverts or was it after the adverts and straight back to Loose Women?

Daily Politics on BBC2 tomorrow at 1410 for the recall of parliament

A real pointless exercise.

Because you didn't like her?

Guessing the start of the break at 13:11, because watching loose women on Itv player, they actually talk about the news briefly, so I guess they must have had a few mins to decide to do that.

No because all those wishing to pay tribute have been able to do so already without having to attend Parliament. Parliament should only be recalled in times of a national emergency surely, and this isn't one.

On that basis you wouldn't have a funeral.

Perhaps they thought it was a nice thing to do for one of the two standout prime ministers of the 20th Century.

So it's even worse? Loose Women had already broken the news by the time ITV went over to ITN? Seems like a pretty pointless news flash really. I could understand if it was in the middle of recorded programmes. Reminds me of the time when Deal or no Deal's The Banker broke the news of Liam Fox's resignation before Channel 4 News did.

Anyone manage to capture the News Channel break the news?

No the news flash as you asked appeared at 13:11

then a break, then back to Loose Women who spoke about the news briefly which can be seen on itv player.

For loose women to talk about breaking news, I would assume they decided this between the news flash and during the break. But the BBC & SKY had already announced the news before 1pm.

Apologies for dragging up an old controversy, but having read through most of this thread I just wanted to offer some clarification regarding Cameron’s statement outside No 10 on Monday.

As far as I’m aware, there was absolutely no collusion between the Prime Minister’s Office and BBC News over its timing. Most of the UK news broadcasters (and several agencies) had anticipated the statement would be made before six o’clock specifically to allow it to be used in evening bulletins. However, the nod from Downing Street was that it would happen at any time between 1800-1815 BST.

And while it all looked incredibly smooth and stage managed on the BBC, I think this was purely down to chance and good presentation skills. In all honesty, I think the BBC would rather have had the statement on tape before the 6 went on air, as it makes managing the running order of a live bulletin that much easier, with one less thing to juggle or worry about. Of course in hindsight though, it looks incredibly well timed.

On a slightly separate note I understand there is a possibility ITV will not carry next week’s ceremonial funeral live. Watch this space …

I think you're wrong.

Seriously, ITV always get it wrong... NOT NEWS, but the 'idiots' that decide when to approve 'news reports'. Their primary concern is advertisers and junctions. Loose Women should never have broken such news, a simple throw to News for 'Breaking News' would have sufficed. Loose Women is live - so what's the issue?

ITV News do extremely well with events such as this, as proven yesterday, and it has to be said 'do very well' at times of 'major breaking news', alas - they are rarely given enough airtime these days to demonstrate such.

Loose Women should never have broken such news

Except they didn't if I'm reading correctly.
