slightly off topic, but good to see regional programmes back on Granada on tues and thurs at 7:30, seems ages since itv made these regional slots regional. Granada Edition imo is a welcome change to granadas regional programming, however one wonders whether or not its just an extended Granada Reports

As nice as it is to see some form of Regional programming, I can say I've not been too impressed with Granada Edition , last week it was about some woman who was battling cancer, this week it was all about Preston North End FC, and is bookended by Tony Morris alá Tonight With Trevor McDonald, plus I couldn't help but notice it was 'A Production For ITV1', nice considering the programme has Granada in the title. Rolling Eyes

Thursday is the 800th series of Go North West, fronted by Eammon O'Neal, who hasn't been on Granada in ages, but thats because he's left apparently, they've all either buggered off to the BBC (NW or Radio Manchester) or Channel M....

Watching tonight's Granada Reports and it's made me think about two things.....

1) I know ITV News programmes tend to be a bit more lighter, but shouldn't the story about the old man being beaten up for asking a non-disabled driver if he held a blue badge or not should have been used before the item about a mobile phone having more germs than an average toilet seat...

2) The man who stood on a roof of a house in Manchester (and forcing Police to seal off the Road) item, I couldn't help but notice that his face was blurred on Granada Reports yet both North West Tonight and Channel M News showed his face in full glory.... though ISTR this isn't the first time this sort of thing has happened.

Has Andy Bonner taken over from Alistair Mann as the stand in presenter for Tony Morris?
I noticed he presented on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday?

I also see they have brought back the annual Paul Crone charity event?
I'll certainly go to one of the live OB's.

Ahh the days of old cronie roaming round the north west with a bucket in one hand and mic in the other. I remember taking a trip to southport to see him with the kids a few years back.

It would certainly seem like Andy Bonner has replaced Alistair. Tony Morris will be off all next week too and possibly the week after.

It will be good to see Paul Crone doing his old tricks around the Region.

Let's hope they raise plenty of money.

I will put a Link to it on my website over the weekend.

There are some updates on there in line with new reporters and presenters.

ISTR they haven't done one of these things for years now, the last one I think was back in 2002/3 when Paul ran around the Region to raise money for the North West Air Ambulance, again ISTR he became a member or at least has something to do with the organisation now, explains why he's only on Granada Reports one or two days a week.

There were loads of appeals in the old days of Granada Tonight back in the 1990's, one appeal was collecting old sets of Glasses which would be sent to Poverty stricken people in Africa, I can't think of other ones, but I do remember they were something of annual thing at Granada, nice to see it back in a way.

The most entertaining end to Granada Reports for a while, custard pies, if only Tony could have had one!

Good on Lucy, a real sport.
When Tony did the walk last week he wouldn't have anything like that done to him, people said they wanted him to dress as a woman but he refused...

I much prefer Rob presenting with Lucy they seem a better pairing.

RegionalVariation
In the regular feature previewing upcoming events on the forthcoming week on Granada Reports at the end of the 6.30 bulletin today (Sunday), it was said 'tune in for the only guaranteed sports round-up in the North West region'. This appeared to be a clear reference to the inconsistency of their BBC rival. Overall I prefer the BBC's offering but sometimes ongoing sports events and scores covered at lunchtime are then omitted from mention in the evening which is rather lax when NWT is bound to be the only source of news that day for some people who perhaps do not have access to other sources.

The sports section each weeknight on GR is consistent, thorough and well presented but sadly looks 'over done' and given too much airtime on the days when real news coverage is scarce and copious amounts of fluff get an airing.
