Tonight's Granada News at 625 had quite a large chunk of the programme taken up with a quite bizarre competition
Quote:
to mark the arrival of the new look to the whole of ITV and ITV Granada News tomorrow
and the prize is an exclusive Granada Reports double deck chair which is cream and fits 2 people with the Granada Reports logo printed on it complete with the 3 yellow 1 blue boxes. Only 1 camera position too tonight so don't know if there's something being hidden there that won't be seen til tomorrrow??
Well what are they gonna do with all the other stuff, I'd gladly take some of it off their hands, I'd love a GRpts umbrella or other items of granada stuff but a deck chair??? no thznks, well, I might enter........
The Granada studio looks great and I love the backdrop with the Granada TV sign in the background.
Do Granada have a weather presenter in the studio like other regions (Wales, Yorkshire etc) have now? Any caps from the main bulletin?
Granada don't have any Weather presenters in the Studio, they're all based down the road at Leeds. Like most other ITV Regions, pratically next to nothing has changed, the graphics are the same as the rest of the Network, and a Granada News/Reports caption takes up the plasma.
I like the new music, but the images in the titles could be improved, I'd rather it be all locations rather than a mix of locations and some kids playing football.
A great moment there on Granada Reports. They had just shown a report by Fred Talbot about some children in a school being paid to do the cleaning. When it ended, Fred walked behind Tony and Lucy with a mop, cleaning behind the sofa. The best part was when he lifted the mop up and polished Tony's head!
What was going on last night with the blanket coverage of Flintoff getting the freedom of the city of Preston? They must have thrown some serious resources at it. Totally OTT. It's hardly the news story of the century. It was worth no more than a live with a reporter, as BBC NWT did. The news editor must be a big cricket fan or something. Great moment when the compere said: "And we're live on BBC Radio Lancashire" and didn't mention Granada!

I disagree to an extent. It was a live event going on in their patch. They still did a substantial news report and then allowed the live event to be covered. For instance that reporter in Liverpool had an exclusive with the grandad of the 10 year old killed and they had a lovely item about the Kirsty appeal.
The down side was it appeared they had a few technical problems - but at least they made a going of covering something as it was happening.
I watched BBC NWT and they went to Dan three or four times in an empty square. Plus Gordon made a comment at the end about NWT being presented by Dan with a little bit from him and Dianne!!!!! It sounded like a bitter comment!

I agree - I couldn't believe how much time Granada Reports gave over to Flintoff in last night's main programme. I'd have thought they may have done 5-10 minutes at the end, but not over half the programme. There must have been some more news happening in the region yesterday that they could have mentioned. I'm quite sure the majority of Granada's viewers would not have been interested in the Flintoff story to the extent that they would want half the programme dedicated to it. A quick live during the sports section to explain what was going on would have been more than adequate.

Quelle surprise....
Plenty of live events go on in Granada's patch every night of the week but they don't throw the resources that they did at this. Are you a cricket fan, per chance? Or are you from that hot RockFM-ing place which is Preston?
