A nice festive end on Granada Reports tonight.

Yes very fesitve indeed, and tasteful too might I add, though I give it to them for fitting loads of people from the Salvation Army from Sale into the Studio cramming them on the sofa without bashing a plasma at all! Plus they gave out loads of Thank You's, just like Tony did on the ITV News Channel earlier. Better than NWT's effort of Gordon Burns yelling Happy Christmas.

Also though it's gone quietly this year, Careline is back, though I've only seen a promo on BBC One.

Sarah Elliot has now appeared on Granada on tonight's late news.

I think they made a very festive effort for the last show of the year.
I loved all the Xmas messages from celebrities.
They even had the Prime Minister.
They must have worked hard to get all those.

Plus on first glimpses Sarah Elliott looks very good. I've not seen her before.

I am truly beginning to lose hope for poor granada reports. The last few shows have been awful..when there is big news in the north west I'll admit it is worth a watch but on a slow news day it's vile.

'email us with yor pointless views so that we can read them out while raising our eyebrows to feign interest and fill fill fill right up until the 6.30 news'.

I'm all for fun stories - that's why i preferred it to NWT..but it's getting embarrsing. In recent shows they've done a review of fitness videos where they literally just showed the clips of a few and said nothing else, they had cilla from corrie on the sofa to talk about comments made on soapstars superstar (can you hear that barrel yet?)...and today they had a magazine columnist in to ask why "we are so interested in coleen". Are we??

Fair enough they want more viewers but i cant believe if you want celebrity gossip you would run to granada reports at 6pm instead of buy Heat. Why cant they just use a bit more imagination...

Eastlands - I agree with the thrust of what you are saying and that some of the ''entertainment'' guests sometimes aren't up to it.
I think the phrase most appropriate at the moment is ''When they are good they are very good, but when they are bad they are rotten!''
I worte to the Editor last week asking a few questions about the editorial direction of Granada Reports - but haven't received a reply yet?

Granada Reports is an embarassment at the moment, even Granada Tonight during the late 1990's was never this low! If you see the Headlines is just sums up the whole programme, with the Main Headline being a 'people care' story (though tonight was the exception with a bit more about the Welsh cycling accident) and then silly non-News items about people claiming against Blackpool Council because the fools trip up on dodgy pavements reported in true Daily Mail style, then pointless Entertainment crap.

Plus the amount of times we were told Ben Elton had his big break in the same studio as Granada Reports, this was getting on my tits.

Though I look foward to the new look on Monday, though like every other programme one would assume that they'll flog it as 'itv Granada Reports'

Yeah and what makes me laugh they say in other news "A fleet of Buses in Wirral have been smashed up by young youths" if you ask me that's a bit more News then Ben Elton.

I still think there is more news in GR than in NWT!
You either love or hate the entertainment stuff but they have to appeal to a different audience on ITV than the BBC.
At least they are committed to a good chunk of news as well as a solid nightly sports round up unlike the BBC.
But that's why I wrote to the Editor re the entertainment stuff. Should it be in there?
I suppose if it's not you just end up with more depressing bad news - but it should be entertainment news we are interested in.

Wondered if someone from Granada Reports was reading this because after a fairly mediocre start to the week they had two fantastic stories on Thursday and Friday.
On Thursday they had a very good story revealing the identity of a teenager that attacked a man in Manchester - which the BBC failed to cover.
And then on Friday one of their Sports people had a great exclusive interview with a former Rugby League player who is seriously ill - and when I turned over to NWT they did a report on the same person but didn't have an interview with him, just friends talking about him.
Looks like GR has bucked up its ideas again - or at least temporarily..
