i think the reason why the producers at Granada Reports are hesitant to use the manchester backdrop is because it looks like a building site.
Having said that, there isn't really anything all that scenic in the city centre.

That's probably the unique way that monitor is configured. My Thomson TV has something similar - "cinerama" - where you can zoom a 4:3 picture to widescreen and while everything in the middle of the picture stays in proportion, the edges are stretched to fill the 16:9 screen.
I never use it!

Someone tell me if it's just my eyes but, someone should really tell them the boxes under the logo are all different shapes. Is this becasue there was actually some animation going on at the time or is that how it always is?

I always never get why the camera is pointing at Granada TV Studios, wouldn't it be better if they stuck a camera on the roof at Quay Street, I'm certain more could be seen from there.
But I should point out there is constant building work going on round the Quay Street area of Manchester.

So Rahman has joined Al Jazeera, the Arabic news channel.
This was in the local paper, Manchester Evening News.
So also said that if this job offer hadn't come his way then he would still leave Granada as he had plans to travel the world, He says he still plans to travel to Lithuania and Greece before taking up his new position.

So Rahman's just done his last bulletin, after 10 Years, this was kept very quiet, but Granada management allowed him a word or two in his final bulletin.

Ah good to hear what he's up to, shame he left Granada as he was one of their best, but I can see where he's coming from as he wants to travel the world.
I liked the report about the proposed No Swearing Day and the fact that Ann O'Connor has contributed alot to Granada Liverpool's Swear Box.

Personally I think they should move the studios back to Liverpool and use the Pier Head as the backdrop. It's a lot more scenic in my opinion. That said, I still think that Liverpool and Manchester are equally two great cities.

Could it be anything to do with the presenters, the quality of reporting, the set, the graphics and the programme in general being considerably better than the BBC's offering?

I have yet to work out why, but I much prefer Granada now - it's a lot better than it used to be.

Granada Reports does have its fair share of pointless mumbo jumbo, but from a presentation view it has improved, the set is a million times better, graphics and astons look more correct and swish these days. Plus you also know what to expect now, as there are always two presenters these days, as they usually had one from time to time, plus it covers the Sport well too.
Though from a content standard North West Tonight is better, it has poor presentation, the set and titles do fine, but it looks like it's being played of a VHS tape half of the time.

Phil - maybe - among other things the old set was truly terrible.
I don't want to start a new thread but it does seem that as Granada has started to improve over the past 12 months the BBC has declined.
