Speaking of that clock, while ABC News 24's schedule is same across Australia, I once noticed that, at least on DTT, the on-screen clock changes accordingly depending on the timezone a viewer is in. (I remember it as I watched the clips of the channel on YouTube as uploaded by Australian users living in different timezones.)

Yep, there's an ABC News 24 feed for each state on satellite for the sole purpose of changing the clock.

This, of course, predates ABC News 24, because 24 used to be the ABC(1)'s HD simulcast and each state had a variant to facilitate local news and promos (unlike the BBC in the UK, regions can opt out for local news on the HD channel Laughing ). ABC News 24 will return back to SD when ABCHD restarts later this year.

Worth noting most the digital channels in Australia have regional variants - mainly for ads, but there are a few scheduling changes too, notably with the NRL and AFL being demoted to the digital channels in states where it's less popular, which has led to the ridiculous situation of Seven not having their main channel in HD in states where the AFL doesn't air on Seven due to a commitment to air the competition in HD across the country.

P.S. More details have been confirmed about the new Nine/Southern Cross regional news shows. Basically they'll be state wide with an 8 minute insert for local news, which will be pre-recorded.
