Reminds me of The Day After Tomorrow with this tidal wave/tsunami!

Yea, the death tolls are scary. *Those waves splashing into New York* Any idea how Mike did it? He was presenting from about 0700hrs till now 1700 hrs GMT? After taking over from Adrian

Mike started at 1200 AFAIK. Has been broadcasting non stop since then. Adrian did 0600-1200 without a break

I guess the big guns may be out this evening

Further to Mike Embley's earlier on-air visits to bbcnews.com, N24 have just crossed to John McIntyre at the "BBC NEWS Online newsroom" to go through some of the thousands of messaged received through the website. Some eyewitness accounts read out, but also messages from concerned families in the UK.

I must admit that I've sadly not had a chance to check out Sky News and ITVNC to compare, but even without a point of reference, it's obvious that N24 and WORLD have been doing a fantastic job today.

Oh, then I miscalculated then. But Mike was presenting non-stop right, he will summarize the news and then the headlines bed kicks in, into another hour of bulletin. I was thinking what if he needs to go to the toilet or something? Confused:

He's clearly superhuman or something.

Nik Gowing is on this evening; I just had a look at the online feed, which broke away from its disaster coverage to go to the Ukranian Election coverage; at which point the feed was replaced with a "this broadcast will resume shortly" still. Perhaps they don't have online rights for the footage they're using?

"BBC WORLD" - I hope you manage to get in touch with people in the region soon - I can imagine it's quite likely that the communication networks are down either from water damage or just the volume of people trying to get through..

A striking eyewitness account from John Irvine on ITV News. He's based in Bangkok but was on holiday with his children near Phuket. He and his son were actually hit by the wave and washed into a mangrove swamp.

ITV also had an eyewitness account from Channel 4 News's Katie Razzall who is on her honeymoon in Sri Lanka.

Who's presenting the News Channel special which followed the ITV1 bulletin? I don't have the ITVNC where I am at the moment.

Nik Gowing on Sunday is very strange, could it be possibile that someone like, I don't know, Anya Sitaram was on schedule but they said "Wait, is Anya going to handle both the earthquake in Asia and the Ukraininan elections in a continuing coverage? We'd better call Nik Gowing"?

One thing I've noticed that's been unusual is the multiple re-use of video material from sources. I think I've seen one bit of video from Sri Lanka that's overlayed with four layers of astons, captions and dogs.

Has anyone noticed this type of thing before?

I must say that I think its pretty appalling that BBC One's schedule has not been altered in the slightest today (correct me if it was), considering the size of death toll at the *start* of the day, never mind now...

Tempted to use the H-word, but not sure who's responsible for the decision. There hasn't been much in the afternoon/evening schedule that couldn't have been tx'd at a later date.

It's not that Anya wouldn't be able to handle it, rather that Nik is the chief presenter at BBC World, and is usually called in when there is major news. Nothing more sinister than that.

If i remember correctly Sophie said earlier that there would be a special bulletin after Casualty@HolbyCity so im guessing that with the Tsunami as well as the Ukranian Election results plus whatever else has been newsworthy today.

Despite Sophie saying this I have seen no change to the listings on the BBC website. Still a five minute summary at 21.25

Oh, I see.
What time did the coverage begin this morning?
